Navy Squash Battles Its Way Past Middlebury

After dropping a 9-0 decision to perennial power Trinity on Wednesday, the 18th-ranked Navy squash team (7-6) regrouped to earn an 8-1 victory over 19th-ranked Middlebury (1-2) on Friday evening at the Halsey Field House International Squash Courts. While the final margin of victory was vast, four of the nine matches went into extra games, including two that went the distance.

Weekend Highlights
• Meeting for the 10th time in series history and just the second time in Annapolis, Navy extended its series lead over Middlebury to 8-2.
• Seniors Owen Davis (Sr / Rydal, Pa.) and Michael Kacergis (Sr / Malvern, Pa.) both secured their 55th collegiate victories, moving them into a tie for 25th on the Mids' all-time wins list. Davis jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Jacob Ellen at the #2 position before Ellen was forced to return prior to starting the third due to injury. Meanwhile, Kacergis swept Jacob Kagan.
• While Davis and Kacergis captured their 55th win,Jack Lentz (Jr / Philadelphia, Pa.) is inching closer to his 50th victory. The three-year member of Navy's ladder improved to 46-19 with his 3-1 victory over Middlebury's Nick Bermingham.
• Owen Davis, Jack Lentz and Millen Randell (Fr / Chicago, Ill.) earned their team-best eighth victory of the year.
• Millen Randell and Gus Prager (So / New York, N.Y.) both captured victories by way of five-game matches. Randell opened up a 2-0 lead, but John Epley rallied to knot the match and force a game five. Randell closed out the victory with an 11-4 win. Prager, meanwhile, traded game victories with Alexander Merrill before closing out a hard-fought match with a 12-10 win in game five.
• Also capturing victories for the Mids were sophomores Ryan York (Hunt Valley, Md.) and Ben Korn (Stevenson, Md.), along with freshman Joe Kacergis (Malvern, Pa).

What's Ahead
• Navy is on tap to play a trio of matches next week, including back-to-back home matches on Tuesday (Brown, 4:30 pm) and Wednesday (George Washington, 5:30 pm). The Mids will travel to Williamstown, Mass. next Friday to face Williams (5:00 pm).
