CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– Navy's
Sydney Harrington (So., Fairfax, Va.) and
Bradley Buchter (Sr., Hickory, N.C.) garnered weekly accolades from the Patriot League this week. Harrington was named the league's women's swimmer of the week and Buchter was selected as the league's men's diver of the week.
Harrington and Buchter earned their respective accolades for their efforts during Navy's meet against nationally-ranked North Carolina teams Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Harrington placed second in both butterfly events and fourth in the 200 individual medley against the No. 16 Tar Heels.
Buchter placed second on the three-meter board in by 5.10 points before winning the three-meter board by 4.12 points against the 22
nd-ranked North Carolina team.
These awards, which only covers meets that took place during the Jan. 6-12 time frame, are the first ones presented by the league since Dec. 10. This means there were no awards presented that includes the Dec. 12 Army-Navy meet. Navy swept Army in the annual dual of service academy programs.
During that meet, Navy diver
Hannah Montau (So., Germantown, Md.) won the one-meter board and placed second to teammate
Meghan Gerdes (Jr., Spring, Texas) on the three-meter board. Army's Serica Hallstead, who was recognized as this week's women's diver of the week, placed second in the one-meter event and fourth in the three-meter competition in the Star Meet.
Additionally,
Daniel Cook (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) posted a trio of wins against the Black Knights. He won the 200 free in a meet record and NCAA B cut time of 1:35.70, won the 100 freestyle and swam on Navy's 400 freestyle relay team. This week's men's swimmer of the week, Army's Evan Zhang, won two individual events against the Mids during the December dual.
