Track and Field Continues Indoor Campaign with Annual Wesley Brown Invitational

Multi events begin Friday at 4:00 p.m. and continue at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Field events begin at 10:00 a.m. and running events start at 12:15 p.m.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field team will host the annual Wesley A. Brown Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 17-18 at Wesley A. Brown Field House. Competition begins with the multi events on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The multi events continue on Saturday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. Field events are slated for Saturday at 10:00 a.m., while the running events start at 12:15 p.m. Admission to the meet is FREE.
 
Live results from M&D Timing will be available throughout the meet.
 
Lieutenant Commander Wesley A. Brown, CEC, USN, (Ret.)
The late Lieutenant Commander Wesley A. Brown, CEC, USN, (Ret.), who the Navy indoor track and field facility is named for, was the first African American to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. Brown was born April 3, 1927 in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, D.C., where he was Cadet Corps Regimental Commander during his senior year. Nominated for admission by New York Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Brown entered the Academy in 1945 and graduated in June of 1949. Lt. Cmdr. Brown, a veteran of World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retired in June 1969 after serving 20 years in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps. He holds the Navy Commendation Medal, World War II and Korean War Victory, Korean Service, and American Theater and Antarctic Service Ribbons. Brown passed away in 2012.

Transportation
There will be shuttles available throughout the meet for transportation to and from the Wesley Brown Invitational. Busses will run from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium to Wesley A. Brown Field House from 3:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valid ID is required.
 
Concessions
Concessions will be available for DAY 2 of the Wesley A. Brown Invitational beginning at approximately 11:00 a.m.
 
Kids vs. Mids Race
All kids 12 and under are welcome to run a lap with their favorite Midshipmen. The kids' competition will take place after the 3,000m run and prior to the 4x400m relays, approximately 4:15 p.m.
 
2020 USATF Indoor Combined Events Championships
The heptathlon and pentathlon being contested as part of the 2020 USATF Indoor Combined Events Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7-8, 2020 at the Naval Academy's Wesley Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The meet will be held in conjunction with America's Meet – the Army-Navy Star Meet – which is part of the Star Series presented by USAA.
 
The USATF Indoor Combined Events Championships will begin on Feb. 7 with the pentathlon and opening events of the heptathlon. The championships conclude on Feb. 8 with the remaining heptathlon events and then transition directly into the Army-Navy Indoor Star Meet. Field events for the Midshipmen and Black Knights are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m., while the running events will start at 12:00 p.m.

Last Time Out – Navy vs. Princeton Dual Meet (Jan. 11, 2020)
The Navy track and field team split a dual meet with Princeton on Saturday at Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md. The Midshipmen's men's team posted a 107-68 victory over the Tigers, while the women's team was edged 90-87. As a team, Navy notched 36 total IC4A / ECAC qualifying times / marks throughout the day.
 
Navy opened up the day with a 107-68 victory in the men's dual. As a team, the Navy men won 10 of 17 events on the day. In addition, the Midshipmen men posted 24 IC4A qualifying times / marks. In the second meet of the day, the Navy women's track and field team was edged 90-87 by Princeton. The meet came down to the final race with the Tigers claiming the meet with a victory in the 4x800m relay. Despite the loss, the Midshipmen recorded 12 ECAC qualifying times / marks on the day, while also notching four top 10 performances in program history.
 
Trio of Midshipmen Earn Weekly Track and Field Recognition
Navy track and field tallied three of the six M-F Athletic Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Weekly Awards as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. David Nelsen (Chandler, Ariz.) was named Male Track Athletes of the Week, while Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.) and Charlene Morke (Isanti, Minn.) were tabbed Male and Female Rookies of the Week, respectively.
