ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy track and field distance runner
Jake Brophy (New Hope, Pa.) was selected as the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, while also being named the NAAA Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman. For Brophy, it is second-straight Patriot League honor after winning four men's cross country athlete of the week honors during the fall.
The senior clocked a new school record time of 3:59.98 in the one-mile run at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. He is the first Midshipmen to post a sub four-minute mile in program history. In addition, the time was the best time in the Patriot League this season and eighth fastest in NCAA Division I.
He broke the previous school record, 4:00.77, set by Steve Schroeder in 2016 by 0.79 seconds, while beating his previous best time (4:04.06), which he set earlier this year, by 4.08 seconds. Brophy finished sixth overall and second among collegiate athletes.
