Offshore Sailing Wins J/105 Class at Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series

Navy also finished third and fourth in the ORC 1 class

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's offshore sailing team had seven boats compete at the Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series where the Midshipmen had the first-place boat in the J/105 fleet while having boats finish third and fourth in the ORC 1 class this weekend.

During the first day of competition, Navy's crew on Constellation sat in third place overall in the 17-boat field at days end, which was highlighted by a pair of second-place finishes. With the lone race on Sunday being a distance race, Teagan Foley led Constellation to a fourth-place finish in Sunday's race, which paced the Constellation to win the hyper-competitive J/105 class with a final scoreline of 2,9,2,4. Foley's crew included Zachary Medeiros on jib and spin trim, Luke Gillcrist on bow, Madelyn Ploch on helm, Virendra Ghate on main trim and Riley Plosica on pit.

Sunday's distance race tested the fleet's patience and skills and even after 15 miles of racing no finishing position was secured until crossing the finish line. With the wind all over the place, each team had to work hard to not fall into the many potholes on the course.

Also in the J/105 class, Megan Caraher led her crew on Dreadnought to a ninth-place finish and Elizabeth Hauschild paced Avenger to 12th after finishing second in Sunday's distance race.

In the ORC 1 class, Paul Jervis led his crew on Wasp to third overall in the 11-boat field, which was three points ahead of teammate Katie Boyle and Wahoo in fourth. Boyle and the crew on Wahoo were third after day one with Jervis and Wasp a point back in fourth after the first three races of the series. Jervis' crew included Nicholas Walden on main trim, Moira Camacho on pit, Cade Gelhar on bow, Jake Kiggans on helm, Patrick Michalik on mast, Gregory Smith on main, Joseph Garcia on jib trim and Larry Frazier on mid-bow.

Rounding out Navy's boats at the Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series was Ashley Koenig on Ranger and Matt Gillcrist on Zephyr finishing eighth and ninth, respectively, in the ORC 1 class where the two crews were separated by just a point.

Next up, the Midshipmen are set to compete at the Storm Trysail East Coast Championship in Annapolis starting on Friday.
