Navy also posted a season-best 2,365 in air rifle

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its first virtual match of the year, Navy fired its best score of the season with a total score of 4,674 points on Friday against No. 8 Nebraska. The Midshipmen also recorded its season-high in air rifle after notching a 2,365 in the discipline, which is tied for second in program history.

"We had a good day, solid smallbore and a very good air rifle match," head coach Mike Anti commented. "Michael Zanti had another very strong performance with a 582 in smallbore and a very impressive 596 in air rifle to lead the team. Mark Amdahl also had one of his best days with a 575 in smallbore and a solid 594 in air."

Following his first sub-1,170 performance of the season last week, Michael Zanti (Jr., Norfolk, Va.) bounced back with a 1,178 in overall scoring. He also tied his career-high in air rifle with a 596 and was two points off his smallbore career mark with a 582.

Navy compiled a 2,309 in smallbore, which was a point shy of its season-high 2,310 set against North Carolina State in October. Zanti guided the Midshipmen after notching a 582 and Brianna Feerick (Jr., Pembroke, Mass.) set a new career-high with a 577. Navy's final two scores toward its team total were produced by Torrance Kang (Sr., Columbia, Md.) and Mark Amdahl (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) with matching 575s.

In air rifle, the pair of Zanti and Amdahl broke the 590 threshold with Zanti pacing the Midshipmen with his 596. Along with tying his personal-best, Zanti's score is also tied for second in school history. Amdahl finished the day with a 594 in the event to set a new season-best and was two points away from his career-high he set last season. Gabriella Mayes (Jr., Rio Rancho, N.M.) posted a 589 and Laurel Kuhne (Jr., Everett, Pa.) scored 586 points to cap off Navy's 2,365 on Friday.

Scores from this match do not go towards NCAA qualification but will be used for GARC purposes. Following complications with Nebraska's rifles and ISOs, the final score for the Huskers will be finalized at a later date.

Navy concludes its fall season on Saturday, November 21 against No. 1 Kentucky at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range.
