Navy Claims Nearly Half of the Swimming and Diving All-League Teams

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –– After winning the Patriot League Championship this weekend, members of the Navy swimmers and divers claimed 34 of the 72 all-league accolades presented today.

The Navy men's team saw 19 of its swimmers and divers receive the accolade and the Navy women's squad had 15 recipients.

Army placed second with a combined 12 all-league honorees.

The Navy women's team scored 927 points to win the league title –– by 394 points –– for the ninth year in a row and the 19th time in program history.  No other team in the league in any single sport has won 19 league crowns.

The Navy men's team tallied 1,095.50 points to win the championship for the 17th year in a row.  The 374.5-point victory this year gave the Mids the most consecutive titles won by a team in any sport in the league.

The swimmers and divers who place first in individual events at the Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship automatically qualify for the All-League first team, while runner-up finishers are guaranteed at least a second-team spot. Both 18-person teams are completed based upon overall points compiled during the championship. Only individual event points count toward all-league accolades.

Headlining the teams were Navy's major individual award winners Bradley Buchter (Sr., Hickory, N.C.), Sydney Harrington (So., Fairfax, Va.) and Micah Oh (Jr., Kent, Wash.).  Buchter won both diving boards for the fourth year in a row to earn the diver-of-the-year laurel for the fourth time.  Harrington was named the women's swimmer of the year after she won both butterfly events and the 200 individual medley.  Oh was selected as the men's swimmer of the year following his victories in both individual medley events and the 200 butterfly.

Women's automatic first-team qualifiers from Navy were Martina Thomas (So., Fayetteville, Ark.), 100, 200 and 500 freestyle; Hannah Montau (So., Germantown, Md.), three-meter diving; Erin Scudder (Sr., Western Springs, Ill.), 1650 freestyle; and Jamie Miller (Sr., Rochester Hills, Mich.), 200 backstroke.

Additional members of the Navy men's team to win an individual event were Ryan Waters (Jr., Basking Ridge, N.J.), 200 and 500 freestyle; Caleb Mauldin (So., Chesapeake, Va.), 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke; Dean Nguyen (Jr., Seattle, Wash.), 100 breaststroke; Luke Johnson (Jr., Charlotte, N.C.), 1650 freestyle; and Dominick Wallace (Jr., La Jolla, Calif.), 200 backstroke.
