ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team competed in three events over the weekend, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Washington College Fall Invitational.
Competition began for the Midshipmen at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship, the premiere women's regatta in the college sailing fall season. The field for the regatta included 18 teams that had qualified through the first round of competition two weeks ago.
Hosted on the Charles River by Harvard, the Mids came away with a 12th-place team finish after
Olivia de Olazarra (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and
Kimmie Leonard (Sr., Annapolis, Md.) finished ninth in the A division while
Evie Blauvelt (Fr., Marietta, Ga.),
Carlyn Blauvelt (Jr., Marietta, Ga.),
Madeline Smith (So., Nokomis, Fla.) and
Faith Southwick (Jr., Lake Worth, Fla.) were 16th in the B division.
The next competition for Navy came at the Nevins Trophy Regatta, hosted in Kings Point, N.Y. The Mids posted some of the top scores in the 18-team field over the weekend, culminating in a sixth-place team finish.
Caden Scheiblauer (Jr., Santa Barbara, Calif.),
Jonah Hatt (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) and
Fiona Lobon (Sr., Chestnut Hill, Mass.) finished 11th in the A division while
Gavin McJones (Jr., Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.),
Colin MacGillivray (Jr., Middleton, R.I.) and
Catherine Aitken (So., Danville, Calif.) won the B division.
The final event of the week for the Midshipmen was the Washington College Fall Invitational where they compiled their best finish of the weekend at third overall in a 14-team field.
Cooper Walshe (Fr., New York, N.Y.) and
Izzy Fadullon (Fr., Annapolis, Md.) took the win in the A division while
Robert Ziman (Fr., San Carlos, Calif.) and
Maggie Schuler (Fr., League City, Texas) were fourth in the B division.
Navy is set to return to action this weekend as it travels to take part in the Coed Atlantic Coast Championships along with hosting the Luce Trophy Regatta.
