Women’s Rowing Concludes Fall Slate at Rivanna Romp

Navy had four entries compete in the V8 event

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Navy women's rowing program put the finishing touches on its 2021 fall campaign on Sunday with action at the Rivanna Romp. Racing on a four-mile stretch of the Rivanna Reservoir near the campus of the University of Virginia, the Mids went up against a strong field of perennial NCAA Championship competitors and ACC opponents in a head-style event. Of the seven teams racing at The Romp, five were ranked or received votes in the final top-20 poll at the conclusion of the 2021 spring season. Navy had four crews entered in action on Sunday, all racing in the varsity eight event. Navy's A crew led the way with an eighth-place result.

Heading to Virginia with four shells in tow, the Mids used Sunday as their last chance to race against collegiate opposition in the 2021 calendar year. Navy's first varsity eight crew led the performance of the quartet as they clocked in with a time of 14:05.2 that ranked eighth overall and fourth amongst the field of first varsity crews. Fellow 2021 NCAA Championship competitors Virginia A, Duke A and SMU A all posted faster times than Navy. The Mids' time surpassed the A boats from Clemson (14:06.6), Louisville (14:08.9) and North Carolina (14:45.5).

Navy's B crew was the second Midshipmen entry in the standings as they placed 14th with a time of 14:36.7. Once again, they bested the boats from Clemson (14:40.0), Louisville (14:45.2) and UNC (15:02.0) in the 2V8 rankings.

Navy's D and C crews rounded out the efforts for the Mids on Sunday with times of 14:47.5 and 15:21.2, that ranked 19th and 22nd, respectively.

"We'd like to thank UVA for putting on such a fun event," remarked head coach Joe Schlosberg. "Today was a good way to wrap up this phase of the year. Now we can get back to work and focus on continuing our development and finding more speed."
