GREENSBORO, N.C. –– Navy's
Patrick Carter (Sr., West Islip, N.Y.) and
Jake Hedrick (Sr., Hummelstown, Pa.) earned berths into the NCAA Diving Championship with their respective performances Thursday at the NCAA Zone A Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
The top-five finishers in the men's three-meter competition on Thursday qualified for the upcoming NCAA Championship. Carter scored 609.25 points over the course of his 12 dives to place second in the event, and Hedrick accrued 596.25 points to finish in third place. Â
Pittsburgh's Dylan Reed posted a score of 675.00 points to win the men's three-meter competition. Â
The women's one-meter board also was held at the zone meet today, and it too was sending the top-five divers to the NCAA Championship. Navy's
Hannah Montau (Jr., Germantown, Md.) placed sixth with a score of 508.65 points. Montau finished 1.85 points in back of fifth-pace finisher Izzi Mroz from Virginia Tech (510.50).
Also competing on the board was Navy's
Meghan Gerdes (Sr., Spring, Texas). She totaled 432.45 points to finish in 18th place.
Carter and Hedrick will compete at the March 25-27 NCAA Championship, which also will be held in Greensboro. Carter will be making his first appearance at the NCAA Championship and Hedrick will be competing at the national championship for the second time (2019).
The NCAA Zone A Championship continues Friday (women's three meter [six qualifiers] and men's platform [four]) and Saturday (men's one meter [six] and women's platform [five]).
