Harrington Named NAAA Athlete of the Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– Women's swimmer Sydney Harrington (Jr., Fairfax, Va.) has been selected as this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week, presented by Northrop Grumman.

Harrington became the second Navy and Patriot League women's swimmer or diver to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors on the Division I level through their efforts during the national championship meet when she accomplished the feat this weekend in Greensboro, N.C.  She received the laurel by virtue of her advancing to the consolation final of the 200 butterfly.  Harrington posted a time of 1:55.36 in the preliminary heats of the event, which placed her 14th overall and qualified her for the evening session.  She then recorded a time of 1:57.04 in the consolation final to place eighth in the race.

Harrington also tied for 18th place in the 100 fly with her time of 52.22, which ranks second to her school and league record of 52.12.  She was the second alternate for the evening session of finals in the event.

Additionally, Harrington owns the Nos. 1 through 9 times at Navy in the 200 fly and the Nos. 1-6 and 8 times at the school in the 100 fly, and is the Patriot League record holder in each event.

The only other Navy or Patriot League women's swimmer or diver to reach a consolation or championship final at the NCAA (D1) Championship is Navy's Lauren Barber, who placed eighth in the consolation final and 16th overall in the 200 breaststroke in 2019.
