After falling short to #14 Pitt in its 2020-21 opener (22-14), Navy came back to win its final five matches of the season, including a 20-13 victory over Army in the annual Star Match. Kolat's first victory at the helm of the Navy program was a 41-3 win at Clarion on Jan. 9, 2021. This is Kolat's eighth year as a DI head coach after previously building Campbell into a Southern Conference power and a national name. The three-time SoCon Coach of the Year led Campbell to three SoConTournament titles (2017, '19, '20) and a pair of SoCon regular-season crowns (2019, '20). He coached 19 NCAA Championship qualifiers, along with 12 individual SoCon Champions and 28 medalists at the SoCon Tournament.

• A Look Back at the Lehigh Dual: Defending EIWA Champion and 17th-ranked Lehigh (8-4, 4-0 EIWA) won six of the first seven matches en route to a 24-9 victory over Navy last Saturday at Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall in Bethlehem, Pa.
The Highlights
• Despite winning six of the first seven matches, the victory by Lehigh was not secured until the second-to-last match which was won by Navy's Jacob Koser, but only by decision.
• Six of Lehigh's seven victories were by wrestlers currently ranked (125-133-157-165-174-197-285) by Intermat.
• Two matches featured ranked wrestlers from both teams - 133 (#19 Malyke Hines, Lehigh / #23 Josh Koderhandt, Navy) and 157 (#8 Josh Humphreys, Lehigh / #18 Andrew Cerniglia, Navy) - with Lehigh scoring wins in both matches.
• Eight of the 10 bouts were won by decision, including one-point victories in four matches (2 wins by Lehigh, 141, 165 / 2 wins by Navy 149, 197) ... Lehigh won both bonus-point matches at 157 (major) and 285 (fall).
• A point was deducted from Lehigh's team score following the 165-pound match due to unsportsmanlike conduct.
• Jonathan Miranda (Sr / 149) made just his second-career dual appearance and claimed his first-career dual win thanks to a late takedown in a 4-3 victory over Lehigh's Paul Watkins. Normally a 141-pounder, it also marked the first match of Miranda's career he has wrestled at 149 pounds.
• Hunter Johns (Jr / 184) got the starting nod at 184 pounds, marking his third-career dual appearance and first since his freshman year (0-2). The 14-8 victory by Johns over Lehigh's AJ Burkhart marked his first-collegiate dual win.
• Three-year starter and 26th-ranked Jacob Koser (Jr / 197) shut out JT Davis 1-0 and improved to 15-6 in dual action over his three-year career and 1-1 this season.
• Ryan Catka (Fr / 285) made his first-career dual appearance against one of the nation's top heavyweights, seventh-ranked Jordan Wood. After a scoreless opening period, Wood, a four-time EIWA Champion, went on to win by fall.

• A Look Back at the Hofstra Dual: Navy secured its first win of the 2021-22 campaign by earning victories in eight of the 10 bouts to defeat Hofstra (2-9, 1-3 EIWA) 35-6 last Sunday at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex in New York.
The Highlights
• Four of Navy's eight victories earned bonus points with a pair of falls (Crebs, Koderhandt), one tech fall (Cerniglia) and an injury default (DelViscio).
• Navy never trailed in the match and won the first-three bouts before sophomore Grady Griess, appearing in his first-collegiate dual, dropped a 4-2 decision at heavyweight to 19th-ranked Zachary Knighton-Ward.
• The 29-point victory was Navy's largest margin of victory since shutting out George Mason 44-0 a year ago in Annapolis.
• Cael Crebs (Fr / 174) made a huge statement in his first-collegiate dual appearance by pinning fellow rookie Ericson Velasquez in just under 6 minutes.
• Returning NCAA qualifier David Key (So / 184) returned to the lineup after missing the last handful of matches and upset 27th-ranked Charles Small 3-2. Key held the early lead, but needed the escape to start the third for the go-ahead point.
• Jacob Koser (Jr / 197) closed out the weekend with a pair of wins after handling Hofstra junior Trey Rogers 8-2.
• Dayton DelViscio (Fr / 125) was awarded the victory in what was his first-collegiate dual appearance after his foe, freshman Jacob Moon, was injured just over a minute into the first period and was unable to continue. DelViscio had just been awarded two points for the reversal when the match was stopped due to Moon's injury.
• Josh Koderhandt (Fr / 133) is now 5-0 this season in wins by fall, pinning redshirt sophomore Matt Templeton in his first match of the season.
• Tyler Hunt (So / 141) needed extra minutes to post his first-career dual win. Hunt overcame a 4-2 deficit in the final minute to force sudden victory thanks to an escape and riding time he acquired in the second period by riding out Justin Hoyle. Hunt notched the match-winning takedown 35 seconds into the two-minute extra period.
• Jonathan Miranda (Sr / 149) went 2-for-2 on the weekend after bumping up a weight class. He followed up his 4-3 win over Lehigh's Paul Watkins with a 3-1 victory against Hofstra sophomore Michael Leandrou.
• Returning NCAA qualifier and 20th-ranked Andrew Cerniglia (So / 157) dominated freshman Joe McGinty in a 17-0 tech fall (4:24). Cerniglia scored 14 back points, including 10 in the second period en route to his 17th win of the 2021-22 campaign

• Scouting Ohio: Led by 25th-year head coach Joel Greenlee, heads into Saturday's dual against the Midshipmen boasting a 5-1 record, including a 2-1 mark in the MAC. The Bobcats dropped their opener at Clarion 25-12, but have since rattled off five-consecutive victories against West Virginia (30-9), Bellarmine (50-0), George Mason (27-9), Gardner-Webb (27-9) and Northern Illinois (27-10). Ohio has three wrestlers who currently reside among InterMat's top-33 rankings - Alec Hagan (Jr / 149 / #31), Jordan Slivka (Fr / 157 / #26) and Sal Perrine (Fr / 174 / #24). Hagan and Slivka own a team-best 18 wins apiece, while Slivka us unbeaten at 6-0 in dual action.

• Navy-Ohio Series: Saturday's dual will mark the inaugural meeting between the two programs.

• Scouting Cleveland State: Fourth-year head coach Josh Moore has guided Cleveland State to a 5-4 record this season, including wins in each of its last two duals. The Vikings have wins over Binghamton (22-18), NJCU (45-6), Chattanooga (17-16), SIU-Edwardsville (24-15) and Clarion (18-15). Meanwhile, their losses have been against Rutgers (35-3), Purdue (39-7), West Virginia (24-10) and Buffalo (19-17). Prior to Sunday's dual against Navy, Cleveland State will play host to Rider and Edinboro on Saturday. Two Cleveland State wrestlers are currently ranked among InterMat's top-33 rankings - Marcus Robinson (R-So / 149 / #32) and Riley Smucker (R-So / 165 / #33). Smucker is atop the wins list for the Vikings with a 12-1 record that includes a 7-1 mark in dual action, while Robinson stands 11-2 overall and is 6-1 in dual events. Redshirt sophomore DeAndre Nassar, meanwhile stands 11-3 at 184 pounds and is 8-1 in duals.

• Navy-Cleveland State Series: The two programs will meet for just the sixth time with Cleveland State holding a narrow 3-2 advantage in a series that began in 1977. The Vikings won the first three meetings (1977-78-79), while Navy has won the last two (1996-2021). This will be just the second time Navy has wrestled at Cleveland State, winning the first meeting in Cleveland 23-9 on Jan. 13, 1996. Twenty five years would pass before the two programs would meet again, as the Mids dealt Cleveland State a 37-0 loss last year (Jan. 30) in Annapolis.

• A Look Back at Last Year's Dual: Navy opened its dual against Cleveland State with a 4-2 win by senior 125-pound Logan Treaster and never looked back, as the Mids won all 10 bouts en route to a 37-0 victory over the visiting Vikings at Alumni Hall. It was Navy's first shutout since blanking George Mason 43-0 on Feb. 6, 2018. Navy won three bonus-point matches with nationally-ranked wrestlers Cody Trybus (141) and Jacob Koser (197) winning by fall, while two-time defending EIWA champion Tanner Skidgel scoring a major decision in his bout. Six of the remaining seven victories were by three points or fewer, including a 5-3 victory by freshman David Key (184) in sudden victory.
