Mids Open Spring Golf Season Sunday at The Hayt

The Navy men's golf team is set to open the spring season this weekend when it travels to Florida to play in The Hayt. Hosted by North Florida, the two-day, 54-hole event is slated to begin on Sunday at Sawgrass Country Club (par-72, 6,966 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The tournament gets underway with a modified shotgun start at 7:45 am with 36 holes planned for Sunday.

The Field
• Navy is among a 15-team field that features 13 teams ranked among the top 100 and two in the top 20 - #19 LSU, #20 Tennessee, #33 North Florida, #37 Louisville, #40 Charlotte, #41 UAB, #45 Liberty, #48 Georgia Southern, #49 Florida Gulf Coast, #70 UCF, #81 North Texas, #90 Jacksonville, #94 Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina and Navy.
• The field also includes 16 golfers that are ranked in the top 100 and five golfers that are ranked in the top 50 nationally.

Tournament Tidbits
• This will be the 30th edition of The Hayt, with the first tournament being played in 1992.
• North Florida is the only team in this field to win multiple titles (four times), as LSU and Tennessee have only won the tournament once.
• Navy placed 15th at The Hayt in their last appearance at the tournament in 2017. The Mids were due to again play in the event in 2020, however, the season was cut short because of the COVID 19 pandemic.

More on the Mids
• Navy played in five events during the fall season, including the annual Army-Navy Star Match in which the Mids won in a dramatic playoff 6-5.
• Navy fall tournament docket included:  6th out of 14 at The Doc Gimmler / 7th out of 16 at  the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse / 2nd out of 12 teams at the Georgetown Intercollegiate and 14th out of 17 teams at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
• Nicholas Klock competed as an individual at the prestigious Jackson T. Stephens Cup where he finished with a 15-over par 231. The tournament featured six of the top 60 teams in the country and Klock was one of six golfers who received a special invitation to play in the inaugural event.
• Following The Hayt, the Mids will have two more opportunities to prepare for the Patriot League Championship (April 29-May 1). Navy will play in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club on April 2 and 3 and close out regular-season tournament action at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational on April 10 and 11.
