Track and Field Concludes Solid Weekend at Penn Relays

Navy set school records in four events over the weekend at the 126th annual Penn Relays.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Navy track and field team posted a solid at the 126th annual Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field over the weekend. The Midshipmen tallied school records in four events, setting new school marks in the men's 4x800m relay, women's high jump, women's 4x1500m relay, and women's distance medley relay.
 
"There was a lot of good things this weekend," Director of Navy Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook said of the meet. "Having multiple winners at the Penn Relays is a great feat. We were also able to set some school records. You come in to the Penn Relays wanting these guys to experience the uniqueness of the meet and this event. It has been around for 125 years. We competed a lot of people and had a good meet. There are still things that we can tweak and improve on, but I am happy with how we competed this weekend."
 
The meet was highlight by school records in four events.
 
On the men's side, the quartet of Sean Casey (Vienna, Va.), Ian Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.), Ashwin Briggs (Pickerington, Ohio), and Alex Rizzo (Bronxville, N.Y.) tallied a collective time of 7:24.92 to win the event and set a new Navy school record. The time topped the previous best which was originally set in 2010 by two full seconds.
 
The women's team combined for four school records in three events.
 
In the high jump, the duo of Hannah Lowenstein (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and Taylor Buchanan (Columbia, S.C.) tied for first place in the college high jump, both breaking the school record with a height of 1.76m (5-09.25). The duo matched each other's record-breaking performances on back-to-back jumps. The height bested the previous mark of 1.75m (5-08.75), which was originally set in 2021 and matched two years later in 2012.
 
The Mids' women's team posted a pair of school records in a pair of relay events. The relay team of Emily Boutin (Chicopee, Mass.), Lindsay Lewis (Lanham, Md.), Ellie Abraham (Brookings, S.D.), and Winter Boese (Clark, Colo.) smashed the distance medley relay record, finishing second in the event. The foursome combined for a time of 11:32.80, breaking the previous mark that was originally set in 2012 by over 13 seconds.
 
In the 4x1500m relay, Navy combined for a school-record time of 18:19.18 in the Championship of America section of the event. The team of Maddie Warrender (Mount Wolf, Pa.), Elizabeth Sullivan (Portsmouth, R.I.), Meghan Sculli (Hilliard, Ohio), and Jessica Nangle (South Hampton, Pa.) finished 11th in the event with the new school record in hand.
 
Katie Halbert (Keller, Texas) posted a time of 14.48 in the 100m hurdles, while joining with Breanna Mealer (Severn, Md.), Molly Mangan (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Sabrina Sutter (Shingletown, Calif.) for a collective time of 47.11 in the 4x100m relay.
 
Helen West (Pinehurst, N.C.), Sutter, Erin Higgins (Ashburn, Va.), and Mangan tied for the seventh fastest in time program history in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:44.42.
 
In the pole vault, Stephanie Jacobs (Belleville, Ill.) posted a jump of 3.78m (12-04.75), while Briana Green (King George, Va.) recorded a height of 3.63m (11-10.75).
 
The triple jump saw Molly Chapman (Leesburg, Va.) and Sami Bollinger (Temecula, Calif.) register distances of 11.9m (39-01.25) and 11.87m (38-11.50), respectively.
 
In the throwing events, Autumn Nicholas (Houston, Texas) posted throws of 46.58m (152-10) in the discus and 50.54m (165-10) in the hammer throw. Jordynn Hutchinson (Spokane, Wash.) recorded distances of 45.85m (150-05) in the discus and 12.28m (40-03.50) in the shot put. Aislyn Hayman (Leon, W.Va.) tallied a throw of 12.82m (42-00.75) in the shot put.
 
On the men's side, Brahmir Vick (Middletown, Del.), Caden Dailey (Centreville, Va.), Sethan Hollier (Baton Rouge, La.), and Jay Evans (Cusseta, Ga.) clocked a time of 41.44 in the 4x100m relay, while Jonathan Simmons (Oakland, Calif.), Hollier, Evans, and Jacques Guillaume (Jacksonville, Fla.) combined for a performance of 3:14.24 in the 4x400m relay.
 
Cole Bailey (Yukon, Okla.) posted a height of 2.04m (6-08.25) in the high jump for a top-10 finish. In the pole vault, Walker Rudisaile (Marion, Texas) finished sixth in the championship section with a height of 4.97m (16-03.50), while Jack Haller (Cumming, Ga.) and Charles Dever (Thornton, Pa.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the college section with jumps of 4.87m (15-11.75) and 4.72m (15-05.75).
 
Dailey won the long jump with a distance of 7.42m (24-04.25), while Nahshon Houston (Kansas City, Kan.) and Aidan Featherby (Corpus Christi, Texas) finished fourth and 10th with jumps of 7.20m (23-07.50) and 6.97m (22-10.50).
 
The triple jump saw Sebasteon Allen (East Orange, N.J.), Jordan Payne (Wendell, N.C.), and Joe Hurt (Carlsbad, Calif.) record top-20 finishes.
 
Joshua Boamah (San Diego, Calif.) posted top-15 finishes in the shot put (sixth – 17.00m), discus (eighth – 52.79m), and hammer throw (13th – 54.98m). David Huizenga (Long Valley, N.J.) competed in the discus (seventh – 53.07m) and shot put (25th – 14.43m). Collin Greene (Elkridge, Md.) finished 15th in the shot put with a distance of 15.64m (51-03.75), while Jonathan Harding (Lafayette, La.) notched a throw of 14.46m (47-05.25) to finish 24th in the shot put. Dane Vernor (Ennis, Texas) finished 19th in the discus (47.79m), while Sam Kwatkosky (Ocala, Fla.) claimed 17th in the hammer throw (54.24m).
 
In the javelin, Braden Presser (Liberty, Mo.) and Hayden Fox (Pittsburgh, Pa.) competed in the championship section, while Caleb Walker (Charleston, S.C.) took part in the college division. Presser registered the eighth-best distance in program history with a throw of 70.84m (232-05) to finish second. Fox's throw of 66.75m (219-00) was good enough for sixth in the event, while Walker notched a distance of 58.33m (191-04) to finish in the top 15.

Navy volunteer Devon Allen posted a time of 13.11 (0.0) in the Olympic Development Elite section of the 110m hurdles to win the division.
 
The Midshipmen returns to action this weekend as Navy hosts the 2022 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Ingram Field in Annapolis.
 
"The Patriot League Championships are something we put on our calendar and it being a home meet, we want to make sure it is a great experience for everyone involved," Cook said of the upcoming conference championship. "We are going to put our best foot forward and be ready to compete. We are excited for the opportunity to host the meet and get another chance to compete."
