EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore
Braden Presser (Liberty, Mo.) finished 18th overall in the javelin with a top throw of 67.21m (220-06) at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. For his efforts finishing in the top 24, Presser earned honorable mention All-America honors.
"We are very proud of Braden," associate head coach and throws coach
Chris Campbell said. "He had a great season. He won the meets we needed him to win. This part of the season was for him. He is only a sophomore, but he had the ability to be in the top 16 or potentially qualify for the finals (top 9), but he just wasn't able to get it done today.
"It is a special opportunity for us at the Naval Academy to coach someone like Braden. They don't come along every year. He got some good experience the last two years. He has had some tremendous leadership from senior team captain
Hayden Fox, who had been here before. Hayden told him what to expect competing in the NCAA Championship. That allowed Braden to come in with an open mind and get after it."
Competing in this first NCAA Outdoor Championship, Presser posted a throw of 67.21m (220-06) in his first attempt. The Liberty, Mo. native fouled on his second attempt as the javelin landed just out of bounds. In his third and final attempt, Presser registered a throw of 66.58m (218-05). The sophomore finished the meet 18th overall to earn honorable mention All-America distinction.
This season, Presser posted four of Navy's top 10 distances in program history. His top performance of the season – 73.55m (241-03) – ranked second all-time in Navy history, missing the school record by 0.26m. In addition, the second-year competitor won the javelin at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship, helping the Midshipmen claim the overall team title.
