Women's Triathlon Captures First Team Win as a Varsity Program at the Waterman's Sprint Triathlon

ROCK HALL, Md. - The Navy women's triathlon team concluded the regular season on a terrific note by winning the Waterman's Sprint Triathlon on Sunday in Rock Hall, Md., to capture the first team victory in its varsity history.
 
All seven Mids placed in the top 15 to score 128 team points. Haley Harris, Anna Wekluk and Sara Jarman swept the podium, placing first, second and third, respectively. 
 
The meet featured a 750m swim, a 23.5 km (14.6 mile) flat bike and a 5k (3.1 mile) flat run.
 
"The race played out as we hoped it would. It was fun to get the win, but it was also great to have our ladies sweep the podium. It was great to see Haley Harris finally break the tape and win a race," said head coach Billy Edwards. "We used our overall ability to showcase our talents as triathletes. There were some surprises along with way with some athletes pushing themselves to the front. It was really awesome to be able to showcase this win so close to the Academy and I hope we can continue to utilize this race site. We can take this positive result to build upon our work as we get ready for regionals in a few weeks."
 
Harris claimed the first individual victory at an event for Navy under varsity status. The junior clocked in a time of 1:09:16.7 to score 28 points. Harris nearly posted the top times in all three segments of the meet. She compiled the fastest swim (11:05) and run (19:07) times while finishing just nine seconds behind Wekluk for the best bike time of the day (37:42).
 
Wekluk used her top-ranked bike performance (37:33) to place second in the meet. She ended with a time of 1:12:41.8 to contribute 27 points for the Mids. The Herriman, Utah, native also finished with the second-best swim time at 11:07 and 10th-fastest run time at 22:35.
 
Following right behind Wekluk in third place was Jarman. The senior posted a time of 1:13:20.3 to earn Navy 26 points. Jarman's run time of 20:15 was the second-best in the field, while her 11:30 swim and 40:26 bike times ranked third and sixth, respectively.
 
Madeline Klippenstein scored 24 points thanks to her fifth-place effort at 1:14:40.1. She registered the third-fastest run time at 20:33. Additionally, the junior secured the fourth-best swim time (11:37) and 10th-fastest bike time (41:04) in the race.  
 
Emely Vela finished right after Klippenstein in sixth place to account for the final 23 team points. She clocked in a time of 1:14:58.3 thanks to finishing with top-10 times in all three segments. She posted the fourth-best run time at 20:52 along with the sixth-fastest swim time at 11:56. The Chester, Md., native also garnered the ninth-best bike time at 40:50.
 
Zoe Adama (1:15:07.3) crossed the finish line just nine seconds after Vela to take seventh place. She ended with a run time of 21:00, which ranked fifth in the field. She also compiled the seventh-fastest bike time (40:29) and ninth-best swim time (12:13).
 
Reagan Quilty capped off the meet for the Mids with a 15th-place effort at 1:20:31.7. She also posted a swim time of 12:13. Additionally, her bike (41:42) and run (25:08) times ranked 11th and 17th, respectively.
 
Navy will begin the postseason at the NCAA East Regional Qualifier on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Huddleston, Va. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
