BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its weekly cross country awards and Navy's
Murphy Smith and
Emily Boutin earned accolades for their performances in the Army-Navy Star Meet. Smith was tabbed Men's Runner of the Week, while Boutin was named Women's Runner of the Week.
Smith helped lead the Navy squad to a dominating 17-43 victory over rival Army with a first-place finish in in the Star Meet, which is part of the overall Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA. He continued his strong junior season, earning the victory in America's Meet with a time of 23:59.8. The time was just a half a second shy of his top 8K performance of the season at the Paul Short Run (23:59.3) where he finished second out of 393d competitors. Smith was 11th through the first checkpoint on the course, but moved up to third through 3K. At the 5.2K marker, the junior had moved into the lead, which he did not relinquish.
Boutin posted a first-place finish individually at the West Point Golf Course in the annual Star Meet. The senior team captain led start to finish, closing out the 6K race with a time of 20:03.8 to win by 35.3 seconds. Boutin, who continues to improve with every race, notched her fastest 6K time of the season. The senior led from start to finish to claim individual medalist honors. She has been Navy's top finisher in all four races that she has competed in this season.
Saturday's competition marked the conclusion of Navy's regular season as the Mids will turn their attention to action at the 2023 Patriot League Championship on Saturday, October 28.
