Navy’s Ian Dinmore Named Recipient of NCAA ELITE 90 Award for Men’s Gymnastics

Junior gymnast has a 4.0 in Chemistry

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy's Ian Dinmore (Jr., Odenton, Md.) has been selected as the recipient of the Elite 90 award for the 2023 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship. Dinmore, a chemistry major at the United States Naval Academy, was presented with his award Thursday night during the pre-championship banquet in University Park, Pa. on the campus of Penn State University.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA during the 2009-10 academic year, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.

During his studies at the Naval Academy, Dinmore has compiled a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average in the classroom. Recently, announced as a Trident Scholar for the 2023-24 academic year, he ranks first in the Class of 2024, as well as in the top-40 for Military Order of Merit. He has twice been honored as a College Gymnastics Association All-America Scholar-Athlete.

In the gym, Dinmore has appeared in 10 meets so far in 2023 and currently ranks third in the ECAC conference and 27th in the nation for the floor exercise with a 13.613 qualifying average. This postseason, he finished fourth at the ECAC Championship and seventh at the USAG Collegiate Championship. Additionally, he's competed six times on the pommel horse for the Midshipmen, who are seeded ninth for this weekend's 2023 NCAA Championship Meet.

Dinmore is the second Navy recipient (Micah Oh, 2020-21, men's swimming & diving), the second from a service academy to earn the award (Oh) and the fourth from a Patriot League school to receive the prestigious nod (Daniel Mitchell, American, wrestling, 2011-12; Chris Myers, Loyola, men's lacrosse, 2015-16 and Oh).
