Women’s Golf Scores a Fourth-Place Finish in JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay

Stephanie Lee Paces Navy by Taking 11th Place on Player Leaderboard in Weather-Shortened Event

GRASONVILLE, Md. – After standing in fourth place following the first day of action, the Navy women's golf team maintained its position in the team leaderboard on Sunday to finish fourth overall in the JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay.

Held at the par-72, 6136-yard Prospect Bay Country Club and shortened to a 36-hole event by Saturday's weather delays, the Midshipmen shot a 45-over par 621 in two rounds of play to place fourth in the 16-team field, just one of five squads to post a score better than 50-over par. Navy used a weekend-low 17-over par 205 score across Saturday's 18 holes to set itself up for Sunday, where the Mids tallied a 28-over par 316 to wrap up the event.

Harvard took home the team title at 29-over par 605 courtesy of a first-round 292 score, while the Crimson's Meiyi Yan claimed medalist honors by shooting 3-over par 147 over the two-day tournament. Navy's fellow Patriot League member Bucknell finished the weekend in ninth with a score of 66-over par 642.

Junior golfer Stephanie Lee was the top player for Navy, using rounds of 75 and 79 to end the second day in 11th overall and a weekend score of 10-over par 154. Behind her in a tie for 18th was freshman Sue Lee, who rebounded after a score of 80 in the first round by shooting a 77 over the last 18 holes to close the tournament at 13-over par 157.

Senior captain Eve Worden shot the third-best weekend score for the Mids at 14-over par 158, tying for 23rd following rounds of 77 and 81, while junior Mara Hirtle finished in a tie for 27th by posting round scores of 80 and 79 for a weekend total 15-over par 159.

Coming in 32nd was freshman Hallie Brisco, as the rookie shot a 75 in the first round but slid down the leaderboard after a second-round score of 85 to end the event at 16-over par 160. Rounding out the Navy contingent was sophomore Bridget Hoang in a tie for 46th, recording rounds of 78 and 85 to finish the tournament at 19-over par 163.

This marked the third of four straight events for the Mids in the state of Maryland.

Navy returns home to the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club on April 15-16 to host the Navy Spring Invitational, the team's final regular-season event before the 2023 Patriot League Championship Midlothian, Va.
