Swimming & Diving Teams to Face Notre Dame and Princeton this Weekend in South Bend

The Navy swimming and diving teams (No. 25 men: 7-1, women: 5-1) will travel to the Midwest this week to take part in a two-day extended dual meet against Notre Dame (No. 12 men: 4-0, women: 1-3) and Princeton (men: 5-0, No. 24 women: 5-0).  The teams will meet Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rolfs Aquatics Center in South Bend, Ind.

The scores from Friday's slate will carry over into Saturday's results.

This is the second season in a row in which the three teams are competing in this format of a meet.  Last year saw the programs compete over the course of Jan. 13-14 in Annapolis.

Navy Women (5-1)
The Mids will be competing for the first time since posting the program's 35th consecutive victory over Army on Dec. 7.  Navy won a 162-138 decision over the Black Knights in what was the closest meet between the teams in 23 seasons.

Notre Dame Women (1-3)
The Irish have posted a victory over Penn State this season and suffered losses to Wisconsin, Purdue and Louisville.

Notre Dame finished last season with a 3-2 record in dual meets and an eighth-place showing at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship.

Notre Dame has won the two prior duals with Navy, both of which have been contested in Annapolis,  The Irish won a 129-110 meet on Nov. 12, 1994, and posted a 279-74 victory last year in Annapolis.

No. 24 Princeton Women (5-0)
Princeton has posted victories this season over Brown, Dartmouth, Rutgers, Penn and Cornell.  The Tigers are ranked 24th in the December College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) national poll.

Princeton tallied an 8-3 record in dual meets last season and won the Ivy League Championship.

Princeton has posted a 3-0 record against Navy.  The teams first met Nov. 22, 1997, at Rutgers when the Tigers recorded a 190-101 victory.  Princeton then won a home meet over the Mids, 168.5-129.5, on Jan. 21, 2022, and tallied a 278-75 win last season in Lejeune Hall.

No. 25 Navy Men (7-1)
Navy improved its record to 7-1 this season with a 179-116 victory at Towson on Jan. 6.  The Mids won 11 of the 16 events with George Moore winning both diving boards and Luca Oliva placing first in both distance freestyle races.

No. 12 Notre Dame Men (4-0)
Notre Dame's victories this season have come over Wisconsin, Purdue, Penn State and Louisville.  Ranked 12th in December's CSCAA National Poll, the Irish were ranked 10th in the November voting after starting the season 17th in the October balloting.

Last season saw Notre Dame post a 4-1 record in dual meets and finish in fifth place at the ACC Championship.

The Mids and the Irish have split the first two meetings in the series.  Navy won a 159-84 meet on Nov. 12, 1994, and Notre Dame tallied a 234-119 victory last season.  Both of those meets were contested in Lejeune Hall.

(RV) Princeton Men (5-0)
The Tigers enter the week having defeated Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, Penn and Cornell and receiving votes in the latest CSCAA national poll.

Princeton ended the 2022-23 season with a 7-3 record in dual meets and a second-place finish at the Ivy League Championship.

Princeton leads the series with Navy, 71-25.  The Tigers have win eight of the last 12 meetings, with three of Princeton's wins in that span coming by no more than five points.  Last year's meet in Annapolis saw the Tigers post a 252-101 victory over Navy.
