11/22/2025 9:47:00 PM

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's swimming and diving team placed first and the women's team finished in second place at the Navy Invitational that finished its three-day meet Saturday night at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.

The men's team totaled 3,815 points to outdistance the rest of the four-team field by nearly 1,600 points.  In the five-team women's meet, Villanova accrued 2,612.50 points to better the 2,471.50 points amassed by the Mids.

"Outstanding job by this team this week," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  "In any three-day meet, there are going to be some ups and downs and I was really impressed with their efforts, their perseverance and the way they operated as one team.

"We would like to thank each program for committing to attend this meet as it was our first attempt.  There was terrific energy and competition and believe we all learned a lot through the meet."

Individually Saturday, Lauren Walsh won the 200 breast and Sarah Eldridge placed second in the 1650 freestyle for the Navy women's team.  In the men's meet, Evan O'Dea won the 200 fly, Michael Phillips placed first in the 200 breast, Ben Irwin won the 200 back and Chase Maier was the winner of the 1650 free.  Additionally, the Navy men's team won the 400 free relay.

Both Navy teams will next be in competition Dec. 6 when the Mids play host to Army.
