ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy water polo freshman Orion Erwin claimed a pair of weekly awards following his career day against No. 20 Bucknell over the weekend. For his efforts, Erwin was named the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Rookie of the Week, while also being tabbed the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman.
 
Erwin helped No. 20 Navy to a 14-13 victory over No. 20 Bucknell on Sunday at Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa. The freshman tied a career high with five points, registering a new career best with five goals scored.
 
Trailing by three (9-6) late in the third quarter, Erwin scored four of the next six goals, including the game-tying and go-ahead goals to help lead the Midshipmen to a win.
 
The freshman scored his second and third goal of the game to pull Navy to within one, 9-8, in the third quarter. He opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals to tie the game at 10-10 and then give the Mids an 11-10 lead that they would not relinquish.
 
The hat trick was the second of the freshman's career.
 
Up next, the Midshipmen will participate in the Brown / Harvard Invitational in Providence, R.I. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20. The Mids will take on Mercyhurst, No. 18 Brown, UC Merced, and No. 12 San Jose State.
