Busy Home Weekend Ahead for #12 Navy Rifle

Navy will host #10 Nebraska and #4 Ole Miss on Saturday before hosting #13 Memphis and Nebraska on Sunday.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 12 Navy rifle team (2-1) is set to host a pair of matches over the weekend at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range. The Midshipmen open the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 19 with No. 10 Nebraska (2-1) and No. 4 Ole Miss (2-0) before taking on the Huskers and No. 13 Memphis (0-1) on Sunday, Oct. 20. Both days of competition are slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. and live results will be available.
 
Accessing the USNA
The United States Naval Academy (USNA) is closed to all vehicles without a Department of Defense-approved identification card. All other visitors are encouraged to park downtown and walk through the security gates at Gate 1. When walking on, those ages 18 and over must present a photo identification card (driver's license) to gain access and those ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
 
National Rankings
Navy is ranked No. 12 in the latest Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) rankings. Ole Miss enters the weekend at No. 4, while Nebraska is tied for 10th. Memphis is one spot behind the Mids at No. 13.  
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 2-1 in the young 2024-25 season. The Midshipmen posted a strong performance in their first competition of the year, tallying 4704 points in the season opener at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range in Annapolis. Defending national champion TCU posted a team score of 4716 to finish just ahead of the Midshipmen, while the VMI men's squad tallied 4536 and the VMI women's team posted a score of 4498.
 
Isabella Baldwin picked up where she left off after an All-American freshman season. The sophomore tallied a team-high 587 points in smallbore, while also leading the team with 596 points in air rifle. Baldwin's aggregate tally of 1183 was one-point shy of tying her career-best.
 
Senior Marleigh Duncan was four points back of Baldwin, turning in an aggregate score of 1179. She posted a score of 585 after six shots of smallbore. Duncan upped her total with a score of 594 in air rifle.
 
Parker Haydin, who missed the 2023-24 season, shook off the rust in his first competition in over a year. The junior posted a smallbore score of 578, while notching a 593 in air rifle for an aggregate total of 1171. Senior team captain Stephanie Milvain matched Haydin with a combined score of 1171. Milvain posted a smallbore score of 581, while tying a career-high mark of 590 in air rifle.
 
Sophomore Ryan Wee and senior Joshua Potts finished with aggregate scores of 1163 and 1161, respectively. Wee was consistent with scores of 581 (smallbore) and 582 (air rifle), while Potts notched a 574 in smallbore, but raised his total significantly with a 587 in air rifle.
 
Juniors Catherine Dely and Grace Shepard posted solid performances. C.Dely (571 SB, 586 AR) notched an aggregate score of 1157, while Shepard (566 SB, 587 AR) finished with a combined score of 1153.
 
Competing in her first collegiate match, freshman Elizabeth Johnson posted a score of 1144, carding totals of 568 in smallbore and 576 in air rifle. Junior Devin Uhrich (559 SB, 569 AR) and sophomore John Dely (532 SB, 542 AR) also competed turning in aggregate totals of 1128 and 1074, respectively.
 
Scouting Ole Miss
Ole Miss is 2-0 by way of besting Akron (W, 4702-4694) and Murray State (W, 4723-4717). The Rebels had a historic day against Murray State to claim its second victory of the season. The Rebels shot the third-best total in smallbore in program history with 2358, as Lea Horvath tied all three of her major school records. The senior shot her fourth career 600 in air rifle, tying Alaska Fairbanks' Rylan Kissell for the most in NCAA history. She also tied her career and school best 594 in smallbore, totaling an aggregate 1194, which also tied her own school record.
 
Scouting Nebraska
The Huskers are 2-1 on the season after going 1-1 last weekend. NU topped UTEP (W, 4,702-4,617) and fell to Air Force (L, 4,719-4,702) on Oct. 12. Freshman Alivia Perkins tied the second-highest smallbore score in team history, with a mark of 597, and placed first in the event. Perkins increased her smallbore score by ten from the season opener, as she scored a 587 against Memphis on Oct. 5.
 
Scouting Memphis
Memphis comes in with a record of 0-1, with its only match being a loss against Nebraska in the season opener (L, 4,709-4,687) on Oct. 5. The Tigers won air rifle, 2368-2364, but got edged out by the Cornhuskers in smallbore, 2345-2319. Junior Gabriela Zych led the way for the Tigers, finishing second overall with an aggregate score of 1177. Zych posted team-best totals in both relays, including a match-high 595 in air rifle and a 582 in smallbore.

Following the busy home weekend, Navy hits the road for its first road match of the season as the Midshipmen head to Lexington, Ky. for a match against No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 26. Live results will be available.
