The Weekend Advance
• One week after playing a close match in Easton, the Navy and Lafayette volleyball teams will meet again in Annapolis on Saturday night.
• First serve in the Wesley A. Brown Field House is slated for 7:30 p.m.
• The match will be streamed on ESPN+. Links to the video stream of and live statistics from the match can be found on NavySports.com.
• The match will be Navy's 1,000th as a Division I program.
Last Weekend
• Navy went on the road last week and won a pair of matches, giving it three wins in its last four outings.
• The trip began with a three-set (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) victory at Holy Cross.
• The next day, Navy defeated Lafayette in four sets (25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 31-29).
Accessing the USNA
• Vehicle access to the USNA is limited to those with an approved ID card. All others must park outside of the USNA.
• On Saturday, the shuttle bus will run from and return to the Navy Health Clinic (695 Kinkaid Rd., Annapolis, MD, 21402). There is no charge to park.
• The shuttle bus begins running one hour prior to the start of the match and ends four hours after the match begins.
• Fans also can park downtown and walk through the gate one visitors center (52 King George St., Annapolis, MD, 21402).
• Those ages 18 and over must have a government issued photo identification card, such as a driver's license, and visitors ages 17 and under who do not have a valid photo ID must be accompanied by an adult.
New Faces
• Navy has used 12 different starting lineups, with 15 players starting at least one match.
• Navy has had nine players make the first start of their respective careers this season.
• Nine returning players have started more matches this season than they had in their careers entering 2024.
• Navy had five players record the first kills of their respective careers during the Wake Forest Invite.
• Among returning players, seven have already recorded more kills this season than they had in their careers prior to the start of this year.
Close Sets
• Navy has played 30 sets since the start of the Patriot League season. Of those 30 sets, 10 have been determined by just two points and 16 have been decided by no more than five points.
Match No. 1,000
• Navy's Oct. 17 match against Lafayette will be the 1,000th for the Mids as a Division I team.
• Navy played 594 varsity matches from the program's first season in 1977 through the 1990 season.
• The Mids were elevated to the Division I ranks starting with the 1991 campaign.
• Overall, Navy has played 1,593 matches heading into Saturday.
Volleyball Reunion
• Navy will hold a reunion of former volleyball players the night of Friday, Oct. 18.
• The players will be honored during a quarter break of Navy's Oct. 19 football game against Charlotte.
• Included among the returning players are Sydney Shearn '19,

Navy in Wes B.
• The Wesley A. Brown Field House has served as the primary home for the Navy volleyball team since the start of the 2008 season.
• The Mids have compiled an 88-78 record in the facility, which includes a 39-23 record under head coach
Paco Labrador.
• Additionally, Navy has registered a 70-46 record in league regular season matches in the field house. The Mids have posted a 31-13 league regular season record under Labrador in the building.
• The late Lt. Cmdr. Wesley A. Brown ('49) was the first African-American graduate of the USNA.
Lafayette Preview
• Lafayette travels to Annapolis with an overall record of 6-11 and a league mark of 1-7.
• One of the wins for the team was a four-set victory over Virginia Tech.
• Navy won a pair of very close matches over Lafayette last season. The Mids first posted a five-set victory (24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 15-10) at home before winning a four-set match (27-29, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23) on the road.
• Seven of the nine sets played by the teams were decided by five or fewer points, with four sets determined by either two or three points.
• Going back to the 2021 season (seven matches), the teams have played 28 sets against one another with 18 decided by no more than five points and 12 decided by either two or three points.
Hoover Rises on Digs Lists
•
Hannah Hoover became the fifth Mid during the rally scoring era and seventh in school history (since 1995) to accrue 1,000 career digs. She attained the 1,000 dig of her career late in the final set of Navy's Oct. 12 match at Lafayette.
• The last Mids to reach 1,000 career digs was setter Patricia Mattingly (1,104) in 2018.
• Hoover has moved into seventh place on Navy's career digs list –– is 14 digs taking over sixth place –– and fifth place during the rally scoring era.
• Hoover had been Navy's starting libero in 65-straight matches until she was unable to play Sept. 28 at Colgate due to an injury that limited her to two sets at Army the night before. The last time she was not Navy's libero was August 26, 2022, when the Mids played at Maryland.
• Hoover snared 36 digs in Navy's five-set match at Loyola on Sept. 22.
• Her total ranks second among Mids for the most digs in a match in Division I history (since 1991).

• Navy will close the month of October with home matches Friday against Colgate (7 p.m.) and Saturday against Army (7 p.m.).
