#12 Rifle Picks Up Three Victories Over the Weekend

Navy defeated #4 Ole Miss, #10 Nebraska, and #13 Memphis over the weekend.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 12 Navy rifle team (5-2, 2-0 GARC) finished the weekend 3-1 over four matches during the weekend at the Bancroft Hall Rifle Range in Annapolis. On Saturday, the Mids split a pair of matches scoring 4701 points to defeat No. 4 Ole Miss (4694 points), while being edged by No. 10 Nebraska (4705). On Sunday, the Midshipmen swept two matches, finishing the day with 4699 points to defeat the Huskers (4697) and No. 13 Memphis (4691).

"We had a good weekend winning three out of four competitions," head coach Mike Anti said of the weekend. "That's is the great news, but we did not shoot the scores I feel we are able to shoot. Our high team score this weekend was a 4701, which is a solid score, but we are able to shoot a 4720 and that is what it will take this year to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The good thing is we are early in the season and have more opportunities to attain the scores we are capable of shooting.

"With that being said we had some very good performances. Our top four counters shot over 580 in smallbore both days. On Saturday, Parker Haydin was our MVP, leading the team with solid performances in both smallbore and air. On Saturday, Isabella Baldwin was the team MVP with a very strong performance in air rifle. We have only a few days to get ready for our match against UK. We will focus on improving our air rifle performance and working on other areas that need to be addressed before our match."

Up next, Navy hits the road for its first road match of the season as the Midshipmen head to Lexington, Ky. for a match against No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 26. Live results will be available.
