ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomore Danny Wask won the 174-pound title at the Navy Classic last Saturday after he pulled off a top 10 upset victory over sixth-ranked Lenny Pinto from Nebraska, 10-5. For his efforts, Wask was recognized as the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman.

At the Navy Classic, Wask also defeated No, 32 Sean Harman (Oregon State) and No. 21 Garrett Thompson (Ohio) to go 3-0 against ranked opponents. He became the 17th wrestler in program history to win a Navy Classic individual championship twice. He's also the first Mid to win back-to-back titles since Nicholas Gil in 2017-18. The Wantage, N.J., native recorded a 4-0 record on the day with three decision victories and a major decision. 

Led by Wask's first-place finish, Navy had eight wrestlers post podium finishes in their respective weight classes to register a team score of 103 to place third of 12 teams.

Up next, the Mids will enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday before returning for the Mat Town I tournament on Sunday, Dec. 1 at Lock Haven, Pa.
