Wrestling Heads to Soldier Salute

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy wrestling team (2-3) set to send 13 wrestlers to Coralville, Iowa, to compete in the Soldier Salute this weekend. The two-day tournament is scheduled to begin on Sunday (11 a.m. ET / 10 a.m. CT) and Monday (12 noon ET / 11 a.m. CT) inside the Xtream Arena.

The Schedule

Sunday, Dec. 29:

·       Session 1 – 11 a.m. ET (10 a.m. CT)

·       Session 2 – 4:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. CT)

Monday, Dec. 30:

·       Session 3 – 12 noon (11 a.m. CT)

·       Session 4 – 6 p.m. (5 p.m. CT)

Soldier Salute Notes

·       The Mids are coming off an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) victory over American last Saturday, 24-21.

·       Navy won four of its six bouts in bonus fashion during last week's victory over American.

·       Freshman Dylan Elmore made his collegiate debut at 165 pounds against the Eagles last week. He earned an 11-4 victory with an explosive start recording two takedowns in the opening stanza.

·       Elmore is slated to compete in his first collegiate tournament this weekend.

·       Nick Treaster recorded his first career dual victory last week with a 13-1 major victory. The freshman controlled the entire match with a pair of takedowns, a reversal and scored four back points.

·       Senior team captain Josh Koderhandt leads the team in total victories (12) and sits at 91 career victories.

·       This weekend marks the second time the Mids will compete in the state of Iowa. Navy last traveled to Ames, Iowa to face Iowa State where it fell, 29-9.

·       Eight of the 25 teams ranked in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Poll will compete in the Soldier Salute this weekend – No. 2 Iowa, No. 4 Nebraska, No. 7 Minnesota, No. 10 Northern Iowa, No. 13 Iowa State, No. 14 South Dakota State, No. 19 Missouri and No. 23 North Carolina.
