Two Wrestlers Reach Podium at Patriot Open on Sunday

FAIRFAX, Va. – Two wrestlers reached the podium in their respective weight classes as the Navy wrestling team competed at the Patriot Open in Fairfax, Va., on Sunday.

Freshman Isaac Hampton led all Mids' with a fourth-place finish at 125 pounds for his first collegiate placement. Drawing a first-round bye, Hampton's day started in the round of 16 against Rider's Alex Esposito. Hampton scored a quick seven points in the opening minute with a takedown and four back points, his dominant bout continued in the second period as he recorded two takedowns to end the match with a 17-2 tech fall and advanced to the semifinals. The Newberg, Ore., native fought for his second win of the day with a tight 4-3 victory over Maryland's Tyler Garvin.
