ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Swimmers
Jonah Harm and
Ela Habjan along with sprinters
Nathan Kent and
Sophia Richter from the men's and women's track and field teams shared this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete-of-the-Week honors, presented by Northrop Grumman.
The four Mids led their respective teams to Patriot League titles last week.
Harm was named the men's swimmer of the meet as the Mids won their 20th consecutive league title. Â He becomes the third Mid to have been named the league's swimmer of the meet in back-to-back seasons (Adam Meyer, 2009 & '10; Justin Vagts, 2012 & '13).
Individually, Harm won the 50 free (19.49, new Navy, Lejeune Hall, Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record), 100 free (43.47) and 100 fly (45.78, new school, pool, league and meet record). Â He also swam the opening leg of Navy's meet-closing 400 free relay team that won the race in a new school, pool, league and meet record. Â His opening 100-yard effort to the race broke the Navy, league and meet record in the event and was just shy of bettering the Lejeune Hall record of 43.16 held by Michael Phelps.
Habjan was named the women's rookie of the meet as she helped Navy win the team title for the 12th year in a row and 22nd time in history.
She won the 100 back (53.41), placed third in the 200 back (1:57.14) and finished in 13th place in the 50 free (23.55). Â Habjan also swam the opening backstroke leg of the Navy's winning 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams.
Kent led the men's track and field team to its fourth-straight Patriot League Indoor Championship and 14th overall last Sunday. He was named the men's track athlete of the meet for winning the 200m, 400m and helping Navy place first in the 4x400m relay. Additionally, the sophomore claimed the men's highest-point-scorer accolade for totaling 30 points from his three victories.Â
Kent broke the meet record in the 400m with a time of 46.83. He beat the previous record by 0.04, which was compiled by Boston University's Logan Popelka in 2023. Additionally, his time is the second-fastest in team history.
The Rocklin, Calif., native then shattered the program record in the 200m with a time of 20.88. His finish bested the former school record set by Jordan Sartor-Francis in 2015 by 0.13.
Kent concluded the meet by running the opening leg for the first-place 4x400m relay team. Kent,
David Walker,
Jay Evans and
Jacques Guillaume combined to post a time of 3:11.04, which ranks second in team history.
Richter helped the women's track and field team win its eighth indoor title and fifth in a row. The freshman garnered the women's rookie-of-the-meet award for placing first in the 400m and leading Navy to a win in the 4x400m relay.Â
Richter's 400m time (54.61) broke the school record by 0.18, which was set by Chelsey Edwards in 2020.
She later served as the anchor of the 4x400m relay team and beat out Army's Emma Taylor by 0.06 to win the event for the Mids. The squad of
Taylor Woodworth,
Kylie Bedard,
Annie Lemelin and Richter clocked in the second-best finish in program history at 3:42.94.
