Men’s Tennis to Play League Foes Loyola and Holy Cross this Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will continue its Patriot League season this weekend when the Mids (21-12, 2-1) play host to Loyola (5-10, 1-2) Saturday at 11 a.m. and play at Holy Cross (2-8, 1-3) Sunday at 11 a.m.  Navy also will play matches Saturday (6 p.m.) at Wagner (1-17) and Sunday at home (10:30 a.m.) against Georgetown (12-5).

Links to live results from Navy's matches against the Greyhounds and Hoyas can be found at NavySports.com.  The matches currently are scheduled to be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts.  Should weather conditions on either day force the matches to be played indoors, they will be contested at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Navy (21-12, 2-1 Patriot League)
The Mids earned a pair of league wins last weekend as they defeated Lafayette by the score of 4-0 and Lehigh by the count of 4-2.  Navy also posted a 4-1 win over Xavier and lost, 4-0, to No. 75 Monmouth.  Nine of Navy's 12 losses this year have come to teams which have been nationally ranked in at least one week this year.

Herrick Legaspi won a pair of singles matches last weekend to run his winning streak to five in a row and improve his record this spring to 11-4.  He posted straight-set wins at No. 2 singles against both Xavier and Lehigh.

His 11 wins ties him with Sasha Panyan (11-6) for the most by a Mid in dual matches this year.  Luke Garner, Nathan Nguyen and Steve Nguyen are close behind as each has recorded nine singles wins.

Loyola (5-10, 1-2 Patriot League)
The Greyhounds have posted a 4-3 win against Holy Cross and lost to both Army (4-0) and Lehigh (4-1) since the start of league play.  Loyola also has posted a 4-3 victory over Villanova, a team the Mids defeated by the score of 5-2.

The Greyhounds have tallied a 3-3 record in matches with the final score of 4-3.

Navy defeated Loyola twice last season.  The Mids won a 7-0 match during the regular season and a 4-0 decision in the quarterfinal round of the league tournament.

Wagner (1-17, 0-7 Northeast Conference)
Wagner has dropped matches this season to, among others, Colgate (6-1), Villanova (7-0) and Fairleigh Dickinson (7-0).  Navy recorded a 6-1 win over FDU earlier this season.

The Mids defeated the Seahawks by the score of 7-0 last season to take a 3-1 advantage in the brief series.

Georgetown (12-5, 3-2 Big East Conference)
The Hoyas will play Friday at Richmond before traveling to Annapolis on Sunday.

Georgetown posted a pair of 4-3 wins last weekend as it defeated both NJIT and Xavier by that score.  Additionally this year, the Hoyas have defeated Army (4-2) and lost to Delaware (6-1), Youngstown State (5-2) and DePaul (4-3).  Navy has defeated Youngstown State (5-2) and lost to NJIT (4-0), Delaware (5-2) and DePaul (5-2).

Georgetown won a 4-3 decision over Navy last season to snap a three-match winning streak in the series by the Mids.  Five of the last 10 matches in the series dating back to the 2011 season have had the final score of 4-3.  Georgetown has posted a 6-4 record against Navy over those last 10 matches.

Holy Cross (2-8, 1-3 Patriot League)
The Crusaders have started the league season with a win over Lafayette (4-1) and losses to Colgate (5-2), Army (4-1) and Loyola (4-3).  They will play host to Boston U. Friday in Worcester.

Navy and Holy Cross last met in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 league tournament.  The Mids defeated the Crusaders by the score of 4-0 that day.
