ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) announced its weekly award winners and Navy sophomore running back
Hunter Gennicks was selected as the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.
Gennicks helped lead the Midshipmen to a 31-26 victory over Mansfield on Saturday afternoon at Karl Van Norman Stadium in Mansfield, Pa.
The sophomore picked up where he left off after a solid freshman campaign, leading the Midshipmen in rushing with 224 yards on 29 carries and three rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he added one reception for six yards.
Trailing 7-0, Gennicks scored the game-tying touchdown, a three-yard plunge into the end zone for his first score of the year. The Linton, Ind. native gave the Midshipmen the lead with a 51-yard jaunt into the end zone as time expired in the first quarter. The sophomore scored what would prove to be the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, scoring from 11 yards out to put Navy in front 31-19 – a lead the Midshipmen would not relinquish.
Up next, Navy will host its home opener against Cornell on Friday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be live streamed on YouTube.com and live stats will be available.
