Sprint Football Hosts Molloy on Friday Night

Kickoff between Navy and Molloy is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy sprint football team (4-0) concludes its three-game homestand with a game against Molloy (1-4) on Friday, Oct. 24 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be live streamed on Navy Athletics YouTube and live stats will be available.
 
All-Time Series
Navy leads the all-time series between the two teams, 1-0. Last season in the inaugural meeting, the Mids posted a 34-0 victory over Collegiate Sprint Football League newcomer Molloy at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Midshipmen out rushed the Lions, 205-to-25, scoring five rushing touchdowns in the game.
 
Scouting the Midshipmen
Navy enters the weekend 4-0 on the season. The Mids notched a come-from-behind 28-17 victory over Chestnut Hill in their last outing. The Midshipmen have outscored their opponents 146-38 with 12 rushing touchdowns and seven passing TDs.
 
The offense has accounted for 1,368 yards of total offense with 882 yards on the ground and 486 through the air. The Mids are averaging 342.0 yards per game and 6.2 yards per play.
 
Hunter Gennicks leads the rushing attack with 678 yards through four games with seven rushing touchdowns. The junior is averaging 169.5 yards per game and 8.1 yards per carry. He is followed by Broderick Freeman who has 143 yards on the ground with a pair of TDs.
 
Starting quarterback Luke O'Connell is 31-for-56 for 448 yards and six touchdowns, while rushing the ball nine times for 70 yards and a TD. Jake Berger leads the team with 193 receiving yards on a team-high 10 receptions with a touchdown. He is followed by Grant Sterchi who has 176 yards receiving with three TD catches. Gennicks has added 41 yards receiving on seven grabs with a pair of TDs, while Jon Malatesta also adds a receiving TD.
 
Defensively, the Mids have held its opponents to just 202.8 yards per game and 38 total points (9.5 per game). Navy has recorded 39 tackles for loss with 10 sacks, while picking off six passes, breaking up 12 pass attempts, and adding 10 fumble recoveries.
 
Jake Wolinski, Sam Stotler, Connor Miltenberger, and Seamas Carrasco lead the team in tackles. Wolinski has a team-high 36 tackles, while Stotler follows with 25. Miltenberger and Carrasco add 21 apiece to close out Navy's 20-plus tacklers. Stotler leads the team with 7.0 TFLs with Mick Tabor adding 6.5 tackles for loss and Wolinski following with 5.0 TFLs. Tabor and Tyler Meisenzhal have a team high 2.0 sacks apiece with Miltenberger adding 1.5 sacks. Wolinski and Owen Erker lead the team with two interceptions each, while Tucker Opdahl and Jake Frazier add a pick apiece. Nine (9) different Mids have forced a fumble with eight Navy players picking up fumble recoveries, including Tabor who leads the team with three fumble recoveries.
 
Scouting the Opponent
Molloy enters the weekend 1-4 with its first win in program history coming against Cornell (W, 16-6). The Lions have dropped games against St. Thomas Aquinas (L, 14-13), Army (L, 49-0), Chestnut Hill (L, 41-7), and Caldwell (L, 40-7).
 
Offensively, Ryan Downes leads the rushing attack with 166 yards on the ground, while Paulie Drummond V and Marquis Dixon follow with 134 and 124 rushing yards, respectfully. Downes, Drummon, and Wilbert Spell III have each scored rushing touchdowns for the Lions. Drummond is 41-for-82 for 412 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions through the air. Spell adds 10 completions for 107 yards, while being picked off three times. Molloy's primary targets are Peter von Schoenermarck and Jalen Gordon who have 22 and 17 receptions, respectively. Von Schoenermarck leads the team with 333 receiving yards and three TDs with Gordon adding 108 yards.
 
Defensively, Ayden Das leads the team with 31 total tackles, while Anthony DiSalvo adds 28 stops. John Zarnowski rounds out the Lions' 20-tackle performers with 21. Joseph Spano leads the team with 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks, while Das paces the squad with one interception and one fumble recovery.
 
Athlete of the Week
The CSFL announced its weekly accolades and Navy student-athletes Hunter Gennicks and Mick Tabor were recognized for their efforts in the Mids' 28-17 victory over Chestnut Hill over the weekend. Gennicks was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Tabor was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Gennicks rushed for a career-high 276 yards, finishing just 15 yards shy of the all-time record for yards in a game of 291 set by David Williams against Army on Nov. 4, 2011. He accounted for 88.2-percent of Navy's 313 rushing yards. The junior running back finished with three rushing touchdowns, finding the end zone on 16-, 2-, and 72-yard runs. In addition, Gennicks caught a pass for five yards for his fourth touchdown of the game.
 
Tabor, who notched eight tackles, led the team with 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and two fumble recoveries, led a Navy defense that held Chestnut Hill scoreless in the second half. In the second half, Tabor was involved with six total tackles, resulting in just one yard gained by Chestnut Hill. He had a solo sack for a loss of seven yards in the second half, while recovering a pair of fumbles in the final two quarters of play. Additionally, Tabor added a quarterback hurry in the game.
 
Last Time vs. Molloy (Oct. 25, 2024)
Navy posted a 34-0 victory over Collegiate Sprint Football League newcomer Molloy at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Midshipmen out rushed the Lions, 205-to-25, scoring five rushing touchdowns in the game.
 
The Midshipmen relied heavily on their ground attack, finishing the game with 205 rushing yards on 37 attempts for a 5.5 yards per carry average. The Mids capitalized on the strong rushing performance, finding the end zone five times on the ground. Hunter Gennicks and Broderick Freeman scored a pair of rushing touchdowns apiece. Gennicks averaged 6.6 yards per carry, finishing with 66 yards on 10 carries, while Freeman averaged 8.8 yards per rush, notching 53 yards on six carries. Ibi Denson led the team with 71 rushing yards on 11 attempts for a 6.5 yards per carry average, scoring the Mids' fifth and final touchdown.
 
Navy used three quarterbacks in the game as Luke Wagner, Luke O'Connell, and J.P. Bobo finished a combined 7-for-13 for 119 yards. Wagner completed three passes for 38 yards, while O'Connell added three completions for a team-high 78 yards. Bobo, who closed out the game, completed one pass for three yards.
 
Five different Mids caught passes in the game. Bryce Smith had one reception for a team-best 47 yards, while Jackson Suddath added a pair of receptions for 33 yards. Biamungu Nkere hauled in a pair of receptions for 30 yards with Freeman and Denson each adding one catch apiece for a combined nine yards.
 
Defensively, 25 different Navy players recorded tackles in the game. The Mids finished with 4.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks in the game. Connor Miltenberger led the team with seven tackles, while Tyler Opdahl added six stops. T.J. Silvernale and Christian Conley each finished with five tackles apiece. Conley, Bobby Rudzki, and Andrew Bailey each registered a tackle for loss, while Miltenberger and Kevin Dennis combined for a TFL. Rudzki and Bailey finished with a sack each, while Miltenberger and Conley combined for a sack.
