ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Freshman
Tyler Wee of the Navy rifle team was chosen as this week's Naval Academy Athletic Association (NAAA) Athlete of the Week. He was recognized for his efforts over the weekend as the Midshipmen defeated #9 Alaska Fairbanks (W, 4729-4722) and #16 Army (W, 4729-4688) in the Mids' first road match of the season.
Wee led the team in all three disciplines.
The freshman finished with an aggregate score of 1191, which was two points shy of his career high and program record, 1193, that he set last week against Akron. Additionally, his 1191 aggregate score tied himself for the second-best in program history.
The Wake Forest, N.C. native matched a season high score of 593 in smallbore, marking the third time this season (five total matches) he has tallied a 593 in smallbore.
Wee, who shot the first 600 in program history a week ago, registered a 598 in air rifle, coming in just two points shy of another perfect score in the event.
Led by Wee's totals, the rifle team finished with 4729 total points, which was the third most in program history. In smallbore, the Mids scored 2347, which was the eighth most in school history, while the Midshipmen's score 2382 in air rifle tied for fifth most in the Navy record book.
