More on the Mids
• Navy finished the 2024-25 campaign with a 17-11 record, marking the most wins by a Navy team since Craig Dawson's final season as the Mids' head coach in 2017-18 when Navy posted a 17-10 record.
• Navy qualified for the Hoehn Cup (teams ranked 13th-20th) at the 2025 Collegiate Squash Association Divisional Team Championship. It was the first time since
Tyler Osborne's first year (2018-19) that Navy has qualified for the Hoehn Cup. The Mids dropped back-to-back 7-2 decisions to top-seeded Western Ontario and fifth-seeded MIT.
• Navy graduated two players off last year's squad, including #1 player
Matt Wang who was a three-time First-Team All-Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference selection. Wang posted a 17-9 record a year ago and was 72-50 over his four seasons at Navy. He is one of just 12 players in program history to reach the 70-win mark. The 72 wins are the 12th most in school history and the most by a Navy player since Senen Ubina finished his career in 2019 with a 77-33 record. Meanwhile, the Mids also graduated team captain
Lucas Spiro, who played primarily the #5 position on the ladder and finished the year 12-14.
•
Wenqing Tang returns after a sensational rookie campaign that saw him garner All-MASC Second-Team honors. Playing the #2 position on the ladder, he finished the year with a 24-4 record which ties as the 14th-most single-season wins in program history and was just 4 off the record set by Jeff Sawin (28-4) in 2006-07. Tang's 24 wins are the most by a Navy player since the 2012-13 campaign when John Richey finished 24-9 and teammates Mitch Bottini and Bill Kacergis boasted 27-6 records. It's also the most wins by a Navy freshman since Bottini and Kacergis in 2012-13. There are just five players in program history who have recorded more than 24 wins in their rookie season - 27, Mitch Bottini (2012-13) / 27, Bill Kacergis (2012-13) / 26, Hunter Bouchard (2009-10) / 26, John Richey (2009-10) / 25, Nils Mattsson (2006-07). Additionally, Tang's 85.7 (24-4) winning percentage goes down in the record books as the second best behind Jeff Sawin's 87.5 (28-4) winning percentage in 2006-07.
• 2025-26 team captain
Alexander Orr also garnered Second-Team All-MASC recognition, turning in a 14-12 record as the Mids' #3 player on the ladder. He enters his final season on the cusp of joining Navy's all-time top-25 wins list, needing six wins to tie Brad Seidel (2007-11) for 25th with 59 victories.
• Meanwhile, Orr and
Ramsay Killinger paired up last spring to go undefeated en route to winning the 2025 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles National Championship. It's the seventh doubles championship won by the Mids and their first since 2019.Â
• Navy added four freshmen to its roster this season -
Christian Graziano,
Johan Hodgson,
Andrew Ko and
Turner Wolf. Ko and Wolf are on expected to be part of Navy's nine-man ladder in the opener, while Graziano is recovering from shoulder strain and is questionable for this weekend.
•
Alexander Orr serves as Navy's team captain as the lone senior member of the team. The remaining members of the team are made up of 5 juniors, 5 sophomores and 4 freshmen.
• Navy stands #15 in the College Squash Association Preseasons Rankings, its highest preseason ranking during the Osborne era.
About the Opponents
• Navy owns winning records over all 5 of its opponents this weekend, including undefeated marks against Fordham (67-0), Bucknell (13-0), Georgetown (15-0) and North Carolina (6-0).Â
• The Mids also lead the series against Denison, holding a 23-9 advantage, including an 18-7 mark in matches played in Annapolis.
What's Ahead
• Navy will play in the Charlotte Round Robin next Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Charlotte. The schedule for next week's event have not yet been finalized.
