Navy Squash to Open Mid-Atlantic Squash Championship Saturday Versus #5 Virginia

The 21st-ranked Navy squash team (15-7) will have a challenging open to the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) Championship, facing #5 Virginia (6-2) Saturday morning in the opener. The Mids and Cavaliers will square off at 11:00 am at Lancaster Country Day School in Lancaster, Pa. Just a handful of hours later, Navy will be tasked with playing #13 Franklin & Marshall (7-4) on its home courts - Mayser Squash Courts. Action is set for 4:00 pm.

The placement matches are set for Sunday at 10:00 am (3rd/4th), 12:00 pm (Championship) and 2:00 pm (5th/6th).

Eight players on the Navy roster have reached double-digit wins this season, including Wenqing Tang who stands atop Navy's wins leader board with an 19-3 record. He is looking to become only the 40th different player in school history to reach 20 wins in a season and just the fifth under head coach Tyler Osborne / Alexander Orr (23 wins / 2022-23), Matt Wang (22 / 2022-23), Henry Sparkman (21 / 2022-23) and Millen Randell (20 / 2022-23). He would also become the first Navy rookie to reach 20 wins since teammate Alexander Orr achieved it in 2022-23 with 23 wins.

Tighe Mullarkey, who has spent the majority of the season at the #6 position (7-6), and Michael Tierney Jr., who has played most of his matches at #8 (8-4), enter the weekend with matching 15-6 records.

Meanwhile, Matt Wang heads into the weekend with a 13-7 record as the Mids' #1 player. He owns a 68-48 career record which are the 14th-most wins by a Navy player. He needs 1 win to move into a tie for 12th alongside Colin Barry (2011-15) and Dylan Sweeney (2015-19) and 2 to become only the 12th player in school history to reach the 70-win milestone. He would be the first since Senen Ubina closed out his career in 2019 with a 77-33 record.

Also nearing a milestone is team captain Lucas Spiro who stands 57-53 over his 4 years. He is 2 wins shy of tying Brad Seidel (2007-11) for 25th on Navy's all-time wins list and 3 from becoming the 25th player in program history to reach 60 wins.
