ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy intercollegiate sailing team continued the spring season this past weekend with three team racing regattas, hosting the Jen Harris Spring Women's Team Race and sending Midshipmen to the St. Mary's Team Race and the Bob Bavier Team Race.
Â
In Annapolis, the Jen Harris Spring Women's Team Race saw light winds in the mornings building to windy conditions in the afternoons both days, with the first day getting so windy that the event went down to one fleet. The 12-team field was very deep, with many of the top teams from around the country in attendance. A complete round robin was sailed on Saturday and the fleet was split into two six-team groups for Sunday. Navy's 4-7 record on the first day placed the Midshipmen just outside the top-six group but the team had a strong final day, going 4-1 and finishing with an 8-8 overall record to earn eighth place. Navy's skippers were
Evie Blauvelt,
Ava Farley and
Kate Zurinskas with crews
Maggie Schuler,
Eleanor Niehoff,
Darby Dryden,
Mary Dwyer and
Josie Sherry.

The second weekend of MAISA's team-racing league saw the Mids head to southern Maryland for the St. Mary's Team Race in St. Mary's City, as the event drew a very strong field of non-conference teams in addition to the typical MAISA Â lineup. The tough fleet paired with high winds that were very puffy and shifty made this regatta a great early season test. Navy's team of skippers
Nathan Smith,
Jack Welburn and
Henry Allgeier with crews
Ryan Wahba,
Ellie Alex,
Darby Graham,
Fiona Cullen and
Spencer Dominguez got off to a tough start, but improved through the weekend to finish fifth overall with a 7-12 record.
Â
At the Bob Bavier Team Race in Charleston, S.C., the strong 10-team nation-wide field was able to complete a double round-robin, with Navy going 7-11 on the weekend to place sixth. Sailing for the Mids were skippers
Tanner Kelly,
George Carty,
Kyle Reinecke and
Sean Trudell with crews
Gregory Lesmerises-DeGraff,
Melania Gonzalez,
Molly Jethwa and
Sarah McNelly.
