Irwin Breaks Pair of Records at NCAA Swimming Championship

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Ben Irwin broke Navy records in both backstroke events and his own Patriot League record in the 200 back at the NCAA Men's Swimming Championship which came to a conclusion Saturday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Irwin entered the meet with a career-best time of 45.92 in the 100 back, a mark he attained during the 2025 Patriot League Championship.  He tallied a time of 45.66 on Friday to break the school record of 45.82 set by Caleb Mauldin three seasons ago and finish in a tie for 26th place in the event.  Irwin was seeded 41st at the start of the day.

He was invited to the NCAA Championship with his 200 back time of 1:40.04, which was a Navy, Patriot League and Patriot League Championship record and won Irwin the event at the league meet for the second season in a row.  He was seeded 26th in this week's field.  Irwin posted a 1:39.79 on Saturday to lower his own standard and place 20th in the trial heats.

Irwin was seeded 40th in the Saturday's 200 fly with a time of 1:42.99 but elected to not swim the event.
