Track and Field Continues Season at IC4A / ECAC Outdoor Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track and field teams continue their postseason stretch at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships, held Friday through Sunday at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.

The meet begins Friday with the men's hammer throw at 4:30 p.m. Field events resume Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by track events at 2:15 p.m. Sunday's slate features the remaining field events at 10 a.m. and track events at 11:10 a.m.

Navy History at the IC4A/ECAC Championships

The men's team has won the IC4A title in four of the last five years and eight times overall. The Mids captured their second-consecutive title last season with 133 points. Nathan Kent was named the 2024 men's outstanding performer after winning the 200 meters (21.06) and 400 meters (46.41).
 
The women's squad has won two ECAC titles —one at the Division II level (1989) and one at the Division I level (2021). The Midshipmen finished third at last season's championship with 65.25 points.
 
Navy's IC4A/ECAC All-East Returners

Navy returns 26 of the 36 athletes who earned IC4A/ECAC All-East honors (awarded to top-eight finishers in each event) last season.
 
The men's team brings back 15 All-East performers: Owen Ahten (3,000m), Ben Countiss (3,000m steeplechase), Pete deJonge (4x400m relay), Jay Evans (4x400m relay), Max Girardet (3,000m), Jacques Guillaume (400m hurdles), George Kalkanis (javelin), Nathan Kent (200m, 400m), Gunnar Kimball (pole vault), Alexander Kirkland (5,000m), Sean Miller (3,000m steeplechase), Justin Mumford (5,000m), Luke Nester (1,500m), Zack Poekert (3,000m) and David Walker (400m hurdles, 4x400m relay).
 
The women's team returns 11 All-East honorees: Jia Anderson (100m hurdles), Kylie Bedard (4x400m relay), Gracie Emerick (pole vault), Jordynn Hutchinson (shot put, discus, hammer throw), Mia-Claire Kezal (1,500m), Annie Lemelin (400m hurdles, 4x400m relay), Olivia Lutkevich (3,000m steeplechase), May McConkey (5,000m), Renny Murphy (javelin), Alex Wercinski (5,000m) and Taylor Woodworth (4x400m relay).
 
Returning Champions for Navy
 
Four Mids on the men's side – Countiss (3,000m steeplechase), Kent (200m, 400m), Kirkland (5,000m) and Nester (1,500m) – are looking to repeat as champions and help Navy secure its third-straight IC4A title.
 
Last Time Out: Patriot League Championship

The men's track and field team won its 11th-consecutive Patriot League Outdoor Championship and 12th overall on May 3 in Worcester, Mass. Navy Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook was named Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year for the seventh-consecutive outdoor season. Kent was named Men's Track Athlete of the Meet for the second year in a row.
 
The 4x100m relay team of Marcel Jackson, Kent, Jonah Johnson and Tyler Yurich broke the league meet record and tied the fastest mark in program history, winning in 39.64 seconds. The quartet had previously set the school record in April.
 
Kent won his second straight 400m league title by breaking an 18-year-old meet record with a time of 46.19, which was also the ninth fastest in program history. The previous record was 46.77, set by Navy's Paul Harris in 2007. Kent earned his third gold medal of the day when he tied the meet record and broke the school record in the 200m with a time of 20.56.
 
Jia Anderson was the highest women's point-scorer (26 pts) at the league championship and led the team to a third-place finish.
 
The 4x100m relay team of Elena Bovell, Bennett Pidro, Woodworth and Anderson won silver with a time of 46.09 which tied for the sixth-fastest mark in school history. Anderson made a strong push in the anchor leg when she nearly overtook Holy Cross's Abigail Desmarais (46.00) for first.
 
Anderson's standout day continued with a gold medal in the 100m hurdles (13.73), the sixth-best time in program history. She followed with another gold medal in the 100m (11.76), fifth-best all time, and concluded her day with a sixth-place finish in the 200m (24.49).
 
Navy Garners Five Academic All-Patriot League Honors
Five Midshipmen earned spots on the Patriot League All-Academic Team: Joe Hurt, Sheldon Ulmer and Caleb Walker on the men's team, and Gracie Emerick and Alex Wercinski on the women's team.
