Intercollegiate Sailing Puts Four on ICSA All-America Teams

Smith and Alex Named All-Americans for the Second Time in their Careers, Allgeier and Cullen Earn All-America Status for the First Time

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After an impressive second-place finish at the ICSA Open Fleet Race Nationals last month, the Navy intercollegiate sailing team had four Midshipmen honored when the ICSA All-America Teams were announced Wednesday.

Earning All-America status for the second time in their careers, junior Nathan Smith was named to the All-America Open Skipper team while fellow junior Ellie Alex garnered All-American Crew distinction. Smith was previously named an Honorable Mention All-American Open Skipper in 2023, while Alex earned Honorable Mention All-American Crew honors last season.

Appearing as Honorable Mention All-Americans, sophomore Henry Allgeier was honored for his efforts as an open skipper and fellow sophomore Fiona Cullen was recognized among crew.

Smith, Alex, Allgeier and Cullen were all instrumental in the Mids' runner-up performance at the Open Fleet Race Nationals, with the quartet also helping Navy take ninth in the ICSA Open Team Race Championship back in April.

Smith and Alex also earned major conference honors earlier this month when they were named the MAISA Open Skipper of the Year and MAISA Crew of the Year, respectively, while Allgeier and Cullen notched All-MAISA First Team selections.
