Navy Men’s Rugby Returns Home to Face Off Against Mount St. Mary’s

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy men's rugby team (2-0, 1-0 Rugby East) returns to the pitch on Saturday when it continues its Rugby East slate by facing Mount St. Mary's (2-0, 1-0 Rugby East) at the Prusmack Rugby Center in Annapolis. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

Last Time Out: vs. Mary Washington
After scoring 50 points in a season-opening win over Queens, Navy's offensive firepower carried over into the matchup with Mary Washington.  The Mids scored nine tries by six different players during a 65-3 victory over the Eagles on Sept. 13. It marked the first time Navy has scored at least 50 points in back-to-back games since the 2023–24 season when it posted consecutive wins over Air Force (50–8), Notre Dame College (50–19) and Penn State (53–5).

The Mids' defense was suffocating throughout the game and prevented the Eagles' offense from finding any rhythm offensively. Navy forced turnovers on four lineouts and generated several knock-ons that flipped field position. Max Smith capitalized on one such error early in the second half when he stripped the ball and scored in the 45th minute to open the second-half surge of 35 points.

Krieger Continues to Stack the Record Book
Roanin Krieger became the second player in program history to score 30 points in a single game during Navy's victory over Mary Washington. Krieger converted all eight of his kicks after tries, made three penalty kicks and added a try of his own early in the second half. His standout performance earned him NAAA Co-Athlete of the Week honors.

Previously, Lewis Gray scored 30 points against Mount St. Mary's on Sept. 17, 2022.

Navy Notes
  • Krieger leads Navy with 53 points this season and is tied with Kade Williams with three tries.
  • Five Mids — Maximus Buono, Trevor Gayron, Aidan Gerber, Smith and Nonso Unini — scored their first tries of the season in the win over Mary Washington.
  • Navy has converted 13 of its 14 conversion kicks (93%) through two games.
  • Dalton Sand led the team with nine tackles against Mary Washington.
  • Freshman Liam Gray made his collegiate debut against the Eagles, playing 29 minutes and tallying one tackle. He is the only freshman to appear in a varsity game for the Mids this season.
  • Navy had 14 drives into Mary Washington's 22-meter zone which resulted into eight tries. The defense allowed just two entries into its own 22-meter zone which ended in a forced turnover and a penalty kick.

Scouting Mount St. Mary's
  • Mount St. Mary's enters the game with a 2-0 record, which includes a 33-20 Rugby East win over Mary Washington in its most recent outing.

  • Mount St. Mary's is led by second-year head coach Jay Myles.

Navy vs. Mount St. Mary's

  • The two teams met twice last season with the Mids holding the Mountaineers to fewer than 10 points in both contests (36-8, 27-8).
