DANBURY, Conn. - Winners of the team competition at last Saturday's 2026 Navy Open, the Navy men's gymnastics program was recognized on Tuesday by the Eastern College Athletic Conference as freshman pommel horse specialist
Kody Tokunaga was selected as the ECAC Rookie of the Week.
A plebe from Palatine, Illinois, Tokunaga continues to prove himself as a pivotal member of the Mids' pommel horse lineup as he posted a score of 13.2 on Saturday as part of Navy's 51.85 turn on the apparatus. That four-man score helped the Mids outscored the field by over 1.4 points as the Springfield Pride's pommel horse squad netted 50.45 points to place second. Individually, Tokunaga's 13.2-point effort tied teammate
Brian Solomon for second best at the competition. His routine involved a 4.4-point start score with an 8.8-point execution score.
Through three events in his young collegiate career, Tokunaga ranks seventh overall in the ECAC on the pommel horse with an average score of 13.05 and a season-high of 13.3. He's the top freshman pommel horse technician in the conference.
This is the first ECAC honor of Tokunaga's career and third for the Navy program in 2026 as Solomon earned ECAC Gymnast of the Week accolades on January 13 and January 20.
Tokunaga and his Navy teammates will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 in the 2026 Star Meet versus Army. First touch between the service academy rivals is set for 2 p.m. at the Halsey Field House Gymnastics Facility.
