ANNAPOLIS, Md. --
James Boardman,
Jack Ussery and
Allie Maloney each won a pair of events as the Navy swimming and diving teams defeated UMBC and William & Mary Saturday at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis. The women's meet saw the Mids (3-1) beat the Retrievers (2-2) by the score of 240-59 and the Tribe (2-2) by a count of 166-128. The results in the men's meet had Navy (4-0) win a 196-96 decision over UMBC (2-2) and a 181-105 meet over William & Mary (3-1).
Navy won both team titles at the 2026 Patriot League Championship, UMBC won last year's America East Conference men's crown and William & Mary placed first at this past season's Coastal Athletic Association women's championship.
"The team did a very good job in today's meet," said men's swimming head coach
Bill Roberts. "It was a terrific opportunity to see how we would do in back-to-back competitions. We got a lot of good information on where we need to continue to improve at this early point in the season."
Maloney recorded victories in the 200 free (1:51.10) and 100 free (51.56) races on Saturday. Additional swimmers from the women's team who won a race were
Corinne Warriner, 100 breast (1:03.29);
Clarice Spencer, 200 fly (2:04.47) and
Marley Barnard, 200 breast (2:18.01). Navy also won the 400 free relay race and swept the two diving events.
Claire Ellish won the one-meter board with her score of 264.53 and
Lily Barrett placed first in the three-meter event with an effort of 294.00.
While the women's team won half of the 16 events, the men's team finished in first place in 13 events. Leading the way were the pair of Boardman and Ussery. The former scored 356.93 points to win the one-meter event and 392.33 points to win the three-meter board, with the latter placing first in the 100 breast (56.50) and 200 breast (2:05.86) races.
Additionally,
Chase Maier won the 200 free (1:37.44),
Martin Perecinsky placed first in the 200 back (48.95),
