Men’s Tennis Trip to Southern California Highlighted by Friday Match vs. Air Force

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will play four matches this week in Southern California during the team's spring break trip.  The Mids (14-12) will play matches Wednesday at UC Riverside (2-14) and UC San Diego (7-8) and then two matches at UC Irvine on Friday against the host-school Anteaters (3-5) and Air Force (4-5).

The UC Riverside match will start at 1 p.m. ET, the match in La Jolla against the Tritons will begin at 6 p.m. ET, Navy will face UCI at 1 p.m. ET and then play the Falcons at 5 p.m. ET.

Live scoring will be available for the match at UCSD, with the link for it found on NavySports.com.

Navy
The Mids, who will be playing their first road matches since Feb. 20, posted a 1-3 record last week as they defeated Georgetown (4-0) and lost to Delaware (4-0), Brown (4-2) and Norfolk State (4-0).

Individually, Aniketh Ayinala (9-3) and Jason Kim (9-4) lead the team in singles victories this spring, with J.J. Etterbeek (8-7), Tommy Kim (8-5) and Jake Young (8-4) each only one win behind.

Kim also is pacing the team in doubles victories with his 9-7 record, while five different Mids have won seven doubles matches.

UC Riverside
The Highlanders have posted a 2-14 record this season, which includes a loss in their lone Big West Conference match played to date.  UCR's wins have come against Hope International and Ottawa Arizona, both of which are NAIA schools, with some of their losses coming to Oregon (two), UNLV, Hawaii, Grand Canyon and Loyola Marymount, all of whom appear in this week's national ranking.

UC Riverside finished last season with a 2-18 overall record and a 0-6 mark in Big West play.

Navy and UCR were scheduled to play a match last season, but rain forced it to be canceled.  The only other match played between the programs was a 4-3 Navy victory in 2019.

UC San Diego
The Tritons enter the match with an overall record of 7-8.  UCSD has defeated both Villanova and Pacific this year, with losses coming to nationally-ranked teams Arizona (two), San Diego, Loyola Marymount and Grand Canyon.

The 2025 spring season saw UCSD earn the fourth seed in the Big West Tournament after posting a 3-3 record in conference play.  The Tritons lost in the semifinal round of the conference tournament and finished the season with an overall record of 7-14.

Navy also had its 2025 match against UCSD canceled due to rain.  The Mids won the first three matches in the series in 1990, '91 and '92, but the Tritons posted a 6-1 victory in 2023 in what has been the only additional played between the teams.

UC Irvine
The Anteaters will take a 3-4 record into their Wednesday match against VCU.  UCI has registered wins over Villanova, San Diego State and Saint Mary's, with all five of their losses –– UCLA, Grand Canyon, San Diego, USC, Loyola Marymount –– coming to teams in this week's national rankings.

UC Irvine won the program's second Big West Conference Tournament title in a row last season.  The Anteaters were the second-seeded team in the event after they won five of six matches during the regular season. UCI ended last year with an overall record of 18-6.

Navy has dropped both prior matches against UCI, which includes a 6-1 loss last season and a 4-0 defeat in 2019.

Air Force
The Falcons have compiled a 4-5 record this season, which includes a 6-1 win over current No. 57 BYU and a 4-0 loss to this week's No. 51 Nebraska.  Air Force also defeated Army by the score of 4-2.

The Falcons tallied an 11-12 record last season and finished the Mountain West Conference regular season with a 2-4 record.

Navy leads the series with Air Force by a 5-2 count, but the Falcons have won the last two matches in 2023 (4-2) and 2025 (4-0).
