ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy track & field teams return to East Coast competition on Saturday at the Virginia Opener in Charlottesville, Va. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., followed by running events at 2:30 p.m.

Navy at Virginia Opener
This marks the second-consecutive season the Midshipmen will compete in the Virginia Opener, winning nine events with four individual winners returning.

Zoie Tesi won the high jump with a leap of 1.73 meters (5-8), while
Sheldon Ulmer completed the event sweep on the men's side with a clearance of 2.03 meters (6-8).

Adam Szatanek looks to build on last year's performance in Charlottesville after winning the discus with a throw of 46.65 meters (153-0).

The lone returning track event winner is team captain
Tyler Yurich, who captured the 100-meter title in 10.47.

Navy opened its 2026 outdoor campaign with a strong performance at the Sea Lion Invite, recording multiple event wins and career-best marks.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team won in 39.87, the sixth-fastest time in program history.
Nathan Kent led the way with victories in the 200 meters (21.12) 400 (47.15), while
Marcel Jackson placed second in the 100 meters (10.49) and third in the 200 (21.51, career best).
David Walker added a win in the 400-meter hurdles (53.94).

Caroline Rey finished second in the 100 meters with a career-best 12.05 and placed third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.46). Sophia Richter added a third-place finish in the 400 meters (57.36), while Savannah Swanda placed third in the 200 meters (25.08).

In the field events,
Aaron Spears won the hammer throw with a career-best mark of 58.30 meters (191-3). Zoie Tesi captured victories in the high jump (1.75m / 5-8.75) and triple jump (12.28m / 40-3.50), both ranking among the top marks in program history.
William Pierce won the long jump (7.24m / 23-9) and Navy swept the pole vault events with wins from Sophia Hill (3.67m / 12-0.50) and
Brian Schloeder (5.13m / 16-10).
