Women’s Rugby Kicks Off 7s Season at Home Tournament

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women's rugby team returns to the pitch this weekend, opening its 7s season by hosting seven teams at the Navy 7s Tournament on Sunday at the Prusmack Rugby Center. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m.
 
Notes for Fans Attending
Admission to all rugby games at the Prusmack Rugby Center is free.
 
Spectator parking is available in the lots on the north side of the Brigade Sports Complex (64 Greenbury Point Road, Annapolis, MD 21402). Overflow parking is located in the open space on the west side of the facility.
 
Alcohol is prohibited at the Prusmack Rugby Center and in surrounding parking areas.

Last 7s Season
Navy finished 12-11 last spring, setting a program record for wins in a 7s season. The Midshipmen opened with a 4-0 performance at the Frostbite 7s Tournament and closed with a 2-2 showing at the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC), placing seventh.
 
Kyndall Wyngaard and Mia Young led the team with nine tries each. Young also paced the team with 75 points and 15 conversions. Ella Callahan added eight tries for 42 points.
 
Recapping the Fall
Navy posted a 4-5 record during the fall 15s season, earning wins over Queens (58-7), Long Island (31-14), Princeton (78-5) and Penn State (53-0). The 78 points against Princeton marked a program record.
 
Young led the team with 30 points on 10 conversions and two tries. Meagan Alvarez followed with 29 points, contributing nine conversions, two penalty kicks and a try.
 
Caroline Shegogue led the team with five tries, while captains Callahan and Ashley Spencer each added four.
 
Scouting La Salle
  • La Salle went 2-8 in the fall, with both wins coming against Temple (41-5, 50-0).
 
Navy vs. La Salle
  • Saturday marks the first meeting between the programs.
 
Scouting Long Island
  • The Sharks finished the 15s season at 2-5, highlighted by a 98-7 win over New Haven.
  • Long Island opened its 7s slate at the Frostbite 7s, posting a 3-2 record with wins over Niagara (19-7), Binghamton (27-5) and Walsh (48-7).
 
Navy vs. Long Island
  • This is the second 7s meeting between the teams. Long Island won last year's Navy 7s game, 28-7.
  • Navy won the fall 15s game, 31-14.
 
Scouting Mount St. Mary's
  • The Mountaineers went 5-2-1 in the fall, their first five-win season since 2019.
  • The Navy 7s marks their first 7s competition this spring.

  • Sacred Heart went 4-3 in 15s play, ending the season with wins over Quinnipiac (27-12) and Long Island (121-14).
  • The Pioneers will compete in four 7s tournaments this spring, including the CRC in Indianapolis.
 
Navy vs. Sacred Heart
  • Sunday's game is the second 7s meeting between the teams. Sacred Heart won the previous meeting at the 2025 Premier National Championship, 39-10.
 
Scouting West Chester
  • West Chester opened its 7s season with a 3-1 record and a third-place finish at the Frostbite 7s, scoring 112 points.
  • The Golden Rams closed the fall 15s season with wins over Frostburg State (30-20) and Bowdoin (19-5) to finish 5-4.

  • Navy leads the 7s series, 6-4, including three wins last season highlighted by a 50-0 result at the West Chester 7s.
