Men’s Tennis to Play at Top-Seeded Wake Forest in NCAA Tournament Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team (27-17) will play at top-seeded Wake Forest (30-3) Friday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Mids, winners of the Patriot League Tournament on Sunday, learned of their NCAA Tournament destination and opponent with the release of the bracket Monday afternoon.

The winner of the Navy-Wake Forest match will stay in Winston-Salem for a Saturday second-round match (2 p.m.) against the winner of the Old Dominion vs. Gardner-Webb first-round match.

Navy has won its last 10 matches, a span that include victories in this past weekend's Patriot League Tournament over Colgate (4-0), Army (4-0) and Lehigh (4-2).

Wake Forest won the 2025 NCAA Tournament, has won 18 matches this year against nationally-ranked teams and its lone 2026 defeats have been to No. 6 Ohio State (4-0), No. 19 Baylor (4-3) and No. 25 Stanford (4-3).  The loss to the Cardinal was the lone defeat for the Demon Deacons in their 13 matches during the Atlantic Coast Conference's regular season.  Wake Forest recently defeated a trio of top-10 teams (at the time of the matches) in No. 9 Duke (4-0), No. 4 Stanford (4-0) and No. 2 Virginia (4-2) to win the ACC Tournament.

The Mids previously played at Wake Forest in the 2018 NCAA Tournament, a match won by Demon Deacons on their way to winning the program's first national championship.  Additionally, this is the fourth time in which Navy is playing the tournament's top-seeded team in the postseason (Virginia, 2009 and '10; Wake Forest, 2018).

Navy is making its 13th trip to the NCAA Tournament since the field was expanded to 64 teams starting with the 1999 event.  The Mids are playing in the postseason for the sixth time in the last eight years in which the event was contested (2018, '19, '21, '22, '23, '26).

Navy is the only Patriot League men's tennis team to have scored a point in the NCAA Tournament.  The Mids did so in 1999 against Mississippi (Mitch Koch won at No. 1 singles) and in 2022 against North Carolina (Navy won the doubles point).
