Final Stats

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Four different Mids won a pair of individual events to help lead the Navy women's swimming and diving team to a 191-97 victory over Johns Hopkins, Friday night at Lejeune Hall. Navy as a team tallied wins in 14 of the 16 events during the meet to improve to 4-0 on the season.

"It was a strong meet for us," said Navy head coach John Morrison. "With the way Hopkins was performing, we knew we had to race to wall in every swim. We received some very good swims early in the meet that set the tone for our overall performance."

Thuy-Mi Dinh (Jr., Anaheim, Calif.), who won a pair of events during Navy's season-opening meet last weekend, recorded victories in the 100 backstroke (1:05.95) and 100 freestyle (57.87) Friday against the Blue Jays (0-1 this year). Tara Chapmon (Jr., Virgina Beach, Va.) continued her strong early-season performance by winning the 200 free (2:02.86) and 200 backstroke (2:21.26) events tonight, one week after winning the 200, 500 and 1000 freestyle contests over Boston College, Catholic and Loyola. Mallory Dietrich (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.), who matched Chapmon with a trio of wins last week, won the 100 breaststroke (1:11.77) and the 200 IM (2:25.21) this evening. Desiree' Robison (Sr., Tucson, Ariz.) meanwhile, won both diving boards Friday night with scores of 218.47 on the one meter and 224.18 on the three meter.

In addition to their individual event victories Friday, Dinh and Chapmon also were part of Navy's two victorious relay teams against the Blue Jays.

Other Mids to tally individual event victories Friday included Katherine Jones (Fr., Dallas, Texas) in the 800 freestyle, Mallory Dietrich (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 100 breaststroke, Tessa Snow (So., Hamlin, N.Y.) in the 200 fly, Allison Ranzau (So., Alpharetta, Ga.) in the 50 free, Heather Klein (So., Chicago, Ill.) in the 400 free and Natalie Albertson (So., St. Paul, Minn.) in the 200 individual medley.

"I felt we put up some competitive times in the events tonight, even though they may not have been the preferred event for all of the swimmers," said Morrison. "But everyone was swimming with a lot of pride and they all wanted to do well no matter what they were swimming. That was good to see. We also were able to accomplish some of the technique goals we had set for ourselves coming into tonight."

Navy will next be in action Oct. 25 when the Mids play host to UMBC in Lejeune Hall. The first race between the two respective women's teams is slated to start at 12 Noon, with the men's meet following at 2 p.m.
