PRINCETON, N.J. - The Navy men's outdoor track and field team (13-0) sent five distance runners to compete at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday night at Weaver Stadium. Three athletes posted IC4A-qualifying times and all five runners set new personal records. There was no team scoring.
Senior Cody Rome clocked a new personal record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:01.36 (IC4A), good for fourth place out of the 105 runners in the field. Rome's time is the sixth-best in school history and edges out his previous PR of 14:01.81, which he ran in 2011.
Rome's time is one of the top 25 in the NCAA East Region this season.
Senior Ken Bunnell placed 13th in the 3,000m steeplechase with a personal record time of 8:58.09 (IC4A). Bunnell becomes the seventh Midshipman to crack nine minutes in the steeplechase during the Coach Stephen Cooksey era (1989-Present).
Bunnell's time is one of the top 20 recorded in the NCAA's East Region this season and the second best in the Patriot League.
Navy had a trio of competitors in the 1,500m run. Senior Jeremy Haney led the way with a 26th-place showing of 3:49.22 (IC4A), a new personal record. Senior Michael Sheehan placed 72nd (3:55.63, PR) and freshman Kyle Davis took 78th (4:02.74, PR).
Freshman Drew Calcagno competed in the 1,500m at the Widener Invitational, placing sixth with a time of 3:56.22.
Navy will compete at the Penn Relays next week.
