Oct. 25, 2015 ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy intercollegiate sailing team only had two competitions this weekend, but both were high stakes conference championships with future events on the line.
In the MAISA Fall Women's Championship at St. Mary's College, 13 teams were on hand fighting for seven berths at the Women's Atlantic Coast Championship, also at St. Mary's in mid-November. Navy started slow and stood in eighth after Saturday's racing with just three races per division to go. The Midshipmen came on strong on Sunday though and moved all the way up to sixth, earning a spot at the ACCs. Hannah Hughes, Mary Morocco and Ana Mier finished sixth in A while Molly Robertson and Brittany Webb-Martin were sixth in B.
At the MAISA Match Racing Championship, eigiht teams were selected by resume to fight for two berths at the Nationals. Navy's team of Michael Madigan, Jimmy Madigan, Addison Hackstaff and Michelle Katz was unable to overcome a slow start and ended up in eighth overall. The experience should leave them hungry for next year.
