Jackson Perkins Wins Admiral Mack Award

Rising junior defensive end from Barrington, Ill.

Rising junior defensive end Jackson Perkins has been named the winner of the Vice Admiral William P. Mack Award, which is presented annually to the Navy football player who has shown the most improvement during spring practice.

"Jackson Perkins had a tremendous spring," said Navy head football coach Ken Niumatalolo.  "He made a very strong impression with his level of play and effort and we look forward to great things from him this season.  He is well deserving of this prestigious honor."

Perkins played in five games last fall, mainly on special teams, but has put on 16 pounds since the Army-Navy game and made a strong push to be a starter at defensive end.

He is the 10th defensive lineman to win the award and the third in the last seven years, joining Bernie Sarra (2013) and Anthony Villalobos (2016)

Perkins, who stands 6-6 and weighs 257 pounds, was a two-sport standout at Barrington High School in Barrington, Ill. where he earned two letters in basketball and three in football.

The Admiral Mack Award was initiated in 1976 and was named in honor of Vice Admiral Mack, the Naval Academy Superintendent from 1972-75 and a strong supporter of the school's intercollegiate athletic program.
